I have to agree with GSMguy here... never happen before but seem frequent this 2 months. I have seen other threads as well with the same repeated posts.... :eek2:

Was waiting for this the whole month of April and finally it arrives….

Can’t wait to hook it up to see the complete flows!!

Meanwhile, diatoms have started on the rocks and sand bed. Will get my cleaning crew to start working in there this weekend. You can also see green algae growths from my LR.

SOLARIS REVIEW CONT’– PART II

SOLARIS REVIEW CONT’â€"œ PART II

As promised, here is more review on Solaris...

Made a rack to hold my Ballasts...
BallasterRack.jpg

You will need a min 15A (recommended 20A) power supply for the lights. It comes with 8’ cables so no worries about cable length here…. My 72” fixture provided a total LED wattage of 600W.

I fired up my Solaris 100% just to see the max brightness and also at different level of brightness. I post pictures for comparison.

Solaris in action at 100% mode:
Solaris100.jpg

Solaris in action at 80% mode:
Solaris80.jpg

Solaris in action at 50% mode.
Solaris50.jpg

The 3 shots look quite identical at 50%, 80% and 100% but in real life, you can see the differences as the camera just don’t capture the differences

Solaris in action at 30% day/lunar white & 50% day/ lunar blue mode. This will remain my current setting:

Solaris â€"œin action at moonlight mode â€"œ sorry for the glare as this is from my current tank:

LOVE the moonlight setting â€"œ can’t wait to see my fishes and corals in this lights. Best part is eventhou in moonlight setting; you can still see shimmers on the sand bed due to the surface water movement from my wavebox :D

Also 2 rear picture below of 100% power up and moonlight:

This give a better idea of the brightness when it’s fully power up :p

The LED is warm to touch….

I love the controller build-into the fixture…the controller is really user-friendly and easy step-by-step instructions in the manual without much of those confusing technical details… :inlove:

SolarisController-1.jpg

It gives you an option of Manual mode, Auto-timer mode or Auto Solar System mode….I currently start with the Auto Solar System mode to see how it does….

Auto Solar System Mode:

In auto setting, the default daylight start time is 08:00hours and ends at 17:00hours and lunar will kick in at 17:01hours to 03:00hours. There is also a ‘Time Offset’ where you can offset the start time by max 240 minutes (+/-)

For people like me, that’s great as by the time I’m back from work, it’s usually late in the evening so I can at least get to see some ‘daylight’ before the lunar kicks in….of course, alternatively is to used the self-timer mode but in this mode, you will not enjoy those funky 365 day sun and lunar cycle, cloudy, moon rotation, etc!!

Only thing I wish was that the ‘Time Offset’ default can go beyond 240min, maybe by another 120min options…

Mmm…..wonder if I can trick the controller by setting the timer in the controller forward by a few hours?? Will test this out this week… :spin1:

Light Spread:
Seem sufficient for my 80cm wide tank…don’t see any issue there but as all lights, I think it’s important we planned our aquascape in advance as much as possible to maximized those corals placements to the lights accordingly.

During the weeks to come, I will see if I need to lower the light fixture as I do not want too much lights throwing off my glass panel â€"œ need to keep those nasty algae’s away!! :fun2:

Verdict:
So far, â€"œ damn SeXy light fixture and SO MUCH flexibility in terms of color combinations… easy maintenance too as it’s not hot to wipe down and no worries about light bulb change for the next 10-12 years... :love1:

Only comments I will make it you have to press hard on the buttons for the controller or sometimes it’s not input.

NOW â€"œ let’s hope it will grow some corals… :lol2:

looking good man. Youve got some quality equipment and I love your aquascaping. Cant wait to see this thing once its stocked

CLEANING CREW IN…..

CLEANING CREW IN…..

Got myself 80 of these guys to start working (I basically clean-out two LFS)…. over here don’t have much choices of cleaning crew so whatever I can get my hands on will have to do… :mixed: This guys are super workers as my current tank started off with only 6 of these snails… :p and once I move my collection of tangs in there, it should keep my algae in-check!!! :D

Turbo01.jpg

Turbo02.jpg

However, as you can see from my previous picture posted, I got hair algae (HA) started growing on my LR so I’m going to try taking care of it before it becomes out of control…. :worried:

Scrap off what I can and I temporary used Chem-Marin STOP Hair Algae to see if it will reduce it. Also will off my lightings for the next few days…. :lol2: I have also order Pohls Coral Snow which should help with my HA issue…

Ed, Nice tank build, good job. My question is on your Soloris lighting what is your thinking about from sun down to moon rise that there are no lights on and the same from moon down to sunrise. With the design that went into this lighting system seems like that could have been corrected. I also understand that there is not a true moon cycle, is that true on yours? There is a moon rise and moon set but not a 1/4 moon 1/2 moon and so on. Thanks in advance.
