29g setup

The red-banded pistols make a clicking sound, but it is not all that noticeable -- not as loud as a tiger pistol or a mantis.

If you have an open top that allows jumping, don't get the yashas, though.

Ya I do have it toppless Im working on a mesh screen Ive seen On here quite a bit The only reason my firefish jumped was my hand was in the tank I was moving rocks and thought it darted to its hole but I was wrong and it jumped out I may go one yasha It doesnt need the shrimp write It can role solo correct??

Yasha's don't need a shrimp. Just make sure it has some hidey spots to claim.

I have egg crate on my tank. Will be fitting some screen over that. Both to keep the fish in and also to keep my kids out!!!

Those yasha's on DD are bigger than mine   :mixed:

I wondered how you were handling that issue, but was afraid to ask :o

Hey Chuck. LOL we haven't had many mishaps so far. Some styrofoam chucked in along w/a Marble, paper, dog food, and milk (just dripped in). The fish are still alive and seem to be thriving. well they are eating anyway...lol

You know what kind of screen I can use? I'm assuming regular mesh window screen?? It won't rust. I'm just nervous about what may be on it that could drip into the water due to condensation... yes, I worry a lot and SW tanks will probably be the end of me

How about rigging plastic screen, like is used for crafts. You can buy pretty big pieces & hand sew it together to get the top size you want and then sew side pieces on to hold it over your tank. Another thought is the open weave fabric that is used for lawn chairs, tacked to a simple painted wood frame.
Metal screening would be toxic for your fish if it should end up in the water for any reason. (kids).
Personally I would just buy a glass cover that is made for that tank, $16.99 at Drs. Foster & Smith.

Ya def not metel screen its more of a plastic Ill try to find the pics But I would like to see a pic on what your talkin about

I would think that an all glass cover would lead to oxygen exchange issues, especially in the winter when the house is closed is closed up more. I did buy one for the tank and received a resounding..."Don't use it". That's when I cut some egg crate to fit.

I'll head to the Depot to look at the kits for DIY Screens. Thanks for the info :) Much appreciated.

any signs of the shrimp? Every time I put one in my tank I see it for about 10 seconds then it's gone forever.

I've seen it a few times. Just have to be patient and sit and watch. What you'll see is sand moving out of one of the holes and if it's in the back area of the tank you won't see it.

I bought some lighting stuff from our lrc meeting. Reflectors, Ballast for 4-65watt bulbs. I'm getting excited and have already drawn an example what I'll do :D As well as already talked to the hubby about making it for me. I can't do this stuff :(

There were some really nice corals at the lrc meeting yesterday. I really did like the candy cane that I was shown. The problem was I didn't want to buy something and have it die b/c my current lighting isn't strong enough. I'd feel bad about just about killing it on purpose (b/c i knew my lights weren't enough).

Next time I'll be ready   :D

sounds good Korine are they T5s or power compact ???And I have some candy canes they are nice Mine are tanish brown with gren center there are a few diffrent

its when I ve only had them for a little while they are alot more plump now I just dont have a better pic

They are PC's, but I think the wattage should be enough to keep most lps.

The candycanes I saw were green and very lovely looking. I can't wait :)

Current stocking is:

8 astraea snails
6 Nassarius snails
1 red banded pistol shrimp
2 yasha gobies

Just noting that I saw my shrimp again a little bit ago. Tried to get him on camera, but was unsuccessfull. He came out 3x before I was ready to shoot. He's growing :) Seemed bigger than before anyway.

Going to Virginia today :D Excited!! I do wish I could bring back some fish w/me. They have better stocked pet stores out there. I suppose being in the middle of the country makes it a bit harder to stock the fish.
