29g setup

oh some bad news :(

Potter's died probably from crypt or velvet. To catch it to try to QT w/meds I had to re-arrange the tank

Now my clown is sick to. It's probably going to be dead by tonight. That leaves just the 1 yasha goby. I can't copper it since it's a scaleless fish. Do I just wait and see if it makes it? If it does make it then the disease will have a host and I won't be able to add another fish.... grrr

Amazing!!! I have been in the hobby for about 13months and last month I got a 29 gallon to upgrade from my 20 gallon long. I got a few pictures which I will update as well with my better camera. i used my cell phone pictures. I am still learning. I am constantly changing the rock arrangements and i think I finally have it where i want it. I just need to get a 1 bigger piece to be satisfied. Good luck and I would like to see how yours turns out. I will be posting better pictures soon.

hi thanks. yea it's hard to place the rock just right isn't it.

More bad news, my clown died too, I have red cyano all over my sand bed, some really scary pod type things running around that are HUGE compared to the others.

The biggest one I could measure was about 1/8th inch. I'm afraid they could be bad ones :( Don't see any of the pencil point sized pods running around anymore....I'm a little scared. What do you think? I'll post on RC as well....I'm kinda scared of these critters :(

FTS of my mess.

And those pods are just isopods so they won't eat my fish or corals or anything I don't want them to eat. Good news :)

Wow, Korrine, I've really enjoyed reading your thread! You have experienced an awful lot in a short time! A lot of good, and some bad...

I'm sorry to hear of your losses, and current difficulties! :( I'm guessing your wrasse is still in QT, and you're hesitating to add it due to disease that might remain in the tank? Do you have any plans regarding the disease problem, yet? Maybe someone will offer some good ideas.

I'm wondering if you could siphon out some of the cyano during a water change, and maybe increase the flow down lower in your tank? That might do a lot of good. Having less fish to feed at the moment should also reduce nutrients and help, I would guess...

I hope you don't get discouraged! I think you can get moving forward again in no time!! :) Everything runs its course, right?

Hi, Thanks :)

Yep some good and some bad. That's exactly why I'm hesitant to add the wrasse to the DT. I'm going to wait 8 weeks and then add him and hope for the best. There's NO WAY IN HELL I'm going to tear down my tank and rock wall to try and catch that yasha goby. It's going to be in it's hole under the rock and sand and I will literally have to tear it all down to get it. I hope the bugs won't cycle on him :(

Short term I'm going to try a turkey baster to suck that cyano out. I intend to get a long handled scraper to combat the coraline and the hard crusting algae that grows on the glass. I need to take out my K2 and heater at some point and do a vinegar soak. There's more coraline on those than on my rocks. I don't want my rocks full of coraline, but some would be nice :)

I intend on saving for a vortech mp10 or 20. Supposed to have really good flow throughout the tank. That will probably be after Christmas.

Can't say I blame you about leaving the goby in there! Getting to him would be awful...

I want a Vortech, too, for when I set up my 40b! I just don't think my wife would understand that expenditure at this particular moment...:worried: So, I'll just settle 4 three big honkin' Koralias cluttering things up in a small tank!

Your wrasse will be in heaven when you plop him in there, if all those pods are still around!

I just won't tell my other half how much they are....

I have flatworms up the wazoo also :( Hope he feasts on them as well. That's part of th reason I chose that species. If he makes it, I may by an H. chrysus wrasse to QT and then add.

i've been through the same, when i was reading this, and you said you were going to skip qt I wanted to yell at you, because you weren't rushing any of the tank but that. I have lost a lot in fish and realized how important qt is in saltwater. even if your tank is healthy at the point and the new fish may look ok now, but it may have the disease so it will spread it to the other fish too. I guess some of us learn the hard way :(

I'd almost guess that MOST of us learn the hard way. I didn't QT with my first tank, and I think I did lose some fish as a result, too. (Sometimes it is hard to identify disease as the definite cause of a loss of a particular fish). I'll probably  QT this next time. It will be grudgingly, though, because a) it's a PIA, and b) disease can be introduced with corals as well, and I won't QT those.

Yeah, that's a bummer about the flatworms. No plans for Flatworm Exit, or something like that? I understand that the treatment is not without risk...

I wouldn't worry about that creepy looking bristleworm! Unless it's really a eunicid worm....:clown:

Did your clown make? I have my fair share of lose of fish. Mainly from improper acclimating, I have learned now that it is very important to do so. I am a rookie at the aquarium hobby.

Nice photos :)

I have some new additions. 6 peppermint shrimps and a 3 stalk candy cane that I epoxied to my rock. I'm excited...it's my first LPS!!! YAY!!

I added my wrasse to my tank also.

Got my MH set up!!! Going to change to 20k bulbs. I HATE the yellow look. W/a 250w on a 29g, I don't think I'll have to worry about PAR.

Wow, Korrine! The wrasse is beautiful, and that's a heck of a lot of light. Things are gettin' good!! :)

Any temperature problems yet? How're the shrimps doing? Oh, and any plans to increase your flow? That might help a bit with the cyano.

No temp problems AT ALL. Will probably occur when it warms up outside. The shrimps are doing good.

Bought a vortech mp10. Coming in the mail as we speak :)

Thanks for the comments and input :D Much appreciated.

How is your tank doing Korrine? It looks alot better in that last pic there, especially looks like the cyano went away?

Do you still have your potters angel that was posted a few pages back? That is a gorgeous fish-
