470g inwall construction thread

He used threaded bh on mine...I feel they give a better seal although I have no evidence to support this. Threaded does give you the ability to remove the pvc fitting from the bh. As far as flow reduction going from 1 1/2 to 1" or 3/4".....maybe an engineer can chime in with the surface area of one 1 1/2" circle compared to four 1" circles or five 3/4" circles. I'm not an engineer but if the area of you outputs added together are equal to or greater than that of your feed line...aren't you OK as far restriction concerns? This hobby makes me regrett all that snoozing I did in physics class!

Haha the sad thing is i just had physic the last year in high school and still do not know!!!!

anyway did you use teflon tape on the bulkheads and male fittings?

also i think i may use these 1.5" spa jet bulkheads so....

that would mean 4 1.5" bulkheads, do you think a dart could power 4 of them? since you already have one, you have first hand experience....

heres a link to the bulkheads,

what do you think? is 4 of these going to get enough flow from the dart?

thanks!

After reading the past few pages, I see more than one person throwing around personal insults and being generally unpleasant. Last warning - either keep it on topic and avoid "holier than thou," or "you're a jerk" type of posts or the thread will be closed and/or some people will be on the outside (of RC) looking in.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Kevin, those kinds of participants in this thread melted away a good while back. Just us bulkhead junkies at the mo. :D

Four 1 1/2" bh on a single dart may be pushing it....of course much depends on how much head you have on your pumps. I'm currently using two darts. One is on a closed loop plumbed into two 1" spraybars down each side of the tank. I don't sense any restrictions due to the two 1" bhs. The other is used as a return plumbed to two 1" seaswirls. It has approx. 6' of head which equates to about 1000gph per seaswirl or 2000gph total output..due to the 6' head. Just a note...I really like the darts. They are compact, give great flow, and are whisper quiet.

I woke up this morning to the alarm on my waveboxes going off. After taking the second one out of its casing, I found a cerith snail in the impeller. Removed it and box is once again making those waves!!

I think your hitch-hiker is a masked goby.

If not then it is a closely related species, and you don't have to worry about it gettin too big.

Than is looking pretty sweet.

Discovered the dreaded redbugs about a week ago. Treated the affected acros as a stop-gap control. Will either remover all acros and treat them in a tub and hold them for 5 days of treat the entire tank. Waiting for the painting and flooring work to finish....should be done this week. I am currently leaning toward removing the acros and treated outside the tank. I added a pair of regal angels and a linueatus wrasse on Thurs. The regals have yet to eat out of the water column but they are eating prepared clams, nori, and my remaining zoos. The wrasse eats anything I throw in the tank. A couple of pics:

I'm having my downstairs wood floors re-done beginning next week.....in wall water leak a couple of months ago destroyed the old floors. Anyway, trying to make a plan on how to protect my livestock from the fumes of the stain and polyurethane. .
A small positive pressure in the room will keep everything out. You just need a good outside area to draw from. Well besides the plumbing etc..

sweet!

where did you get the pair of regals from?

also did they sell them as a pair or no?

thanks!

Nick

Nick,

The regals came from Quality Marine via my local LFS (Reef-Revolutions) here in Tulsa. Reef-Revolutions ordered them from Quality as a pair and let me pick them up at the airport.....great customer service to say the least!!! I have my doubts about them being mated as they are very young and regals are very hard to sex. They are bedding down together and travel the tank together....so far so good. I would be happy if I have a male and female. No luck yet getting them to eat out of the water column but they are taking clams on the half-shell and eliminating every zoo in my tank.
