47G SPS...Revamp

Congrats buddy. Well and truly deserved, you are always willing to offer help and advice to any one that asks.

Thank you everyone.

I will do my best to post a video of my corals this weekend. I'll be sure to include nice clips of the brown turds that are still remaining in the tank. :p

Bah.....still trying to garner sympathy :lolspin:

Congratulations Sahin. Your tank is excellent, your reef keeping skills are superior and you are always willing to help out a fellow reefer.

Congratulations on the award mate, i'm very chuffed to see you recognized :celeb1:

The best way to color up real browned out acros fast is to force them to expel the majority of the overpopulated zoa mass. After a few days recovery on the bottom you place the acro in moderate light and the actual skin tissue will tend to protect itself with its own pigments rather than relying on zoa for too much light protection and food supply.
This will only work if you have your conditions right for a healthy acro to form pigments but the fact the majority of your acros are beautifully colored or well on their way means that's already the case.
Water borne nutrition is particularly important once you 'reboot' the acro since you have just suddenly removed a large supplier of its nutrition and the water needs to 'feed' the acro more. Amino dosing is a good thing when doing the reboot imo.

You can use light or a poison dip in spur2 to accomplish the same thing but i have only ever used light bleaching personally.

Otherwise you can wait for the acro to likely never color back up again if it has reached a state of existence that is fixed in the turd zone..........

I've used ZeoSpur 2 twice, but never at doses large enough to see any difference, apparently. It may have helped my teal stag show more blue, but I didn't notice any other drastic changes

I never thought about dipping in an appropriate mixture of Spur. I have a few frags that have browned and refuse to color for months ... hmmm.

Hi Biggles!

ZeoSpur2 is an alguicide. It does kill zooxanthela (Symbidinium) and also some dinoflagellates at higher doses. As Sahin says, be careful in the long run as it tends to thin up corals tissues.

I'll tell you how to use it:
Do not pour the stuff in the tank, just make a 1:10 dissolution (ZSP2:tank water) and dip the brown turd you want to clean up from zooxanthela for about 1 minute. Then put it back in the tank and wait 24 hours, the change it makes is awesome.

Only do it with healthy and browned out acros, never dip a just bought or recent frag as you can easily kill it.

Personally i would be inclined to use spur2 at something like 1ml to a gallon of tank water. My advice about correcting frags that have adapted to life covered in zoa was directed towards Sahin who i know is very experienced with SPS.
I don't have anything brown to try a spur2 poison dip with so i can't comment on any safe dosage amount with confidence.
