47G SPS...Revamp

Wow!!

Great camera work!!
Thank you. I hope to achieve the amazing red/pink pigments you bring out in your corals.

Those last pics are awesome as usual mate, the pigment colors are really beautiful and saturated as they should be - great stuff Sahin

Back to reality - you haven't posted any acro pics for a few pages now, i have a tupperware container with some airline shoved through it to drip stuff in so that NASA dripper thing doesn't excite me................ get the camera out please mate, we need more colored candy ! :hammer:

Thanks mate, trying to best to achieve some decent SPS colours...I'm no way close to anything you've achieved so far...but the decent colours I'm seeing on my corals lately makes me feel ok about the tank at least.

As for that Kore 5th doser, seriously, it is a nice piece of equipment. Dom has one too. I know you feel left out, maybe Kevin will buy you a Kore5th for Xmas.

Photos wont be coming for a long time now. My 13+ year old Nikon D70 is now officially broke. It keeps on damaging the memory cards and the photos taken are corupted. :( Stupid camera chose to worst moment to die - right after I bought the Kore 5th Doser and before I buy my Neptune Apex Controller....:headwally:

Next camera will HAVE to be able to record nice VIDEOS. I cant spend on a top of the range camera, but at least something that can record decent videos and not be blown out by the LED's. I'm swapping over to Canon as my two brothers who are into photography both have loads of Canon gear. Typically, neither has a Macro lens for SPS photography... :hmm5:

I'm having the same issue with a newer Nikon, and think it's the rate we move the card from camera to PC that is damaging the cards. I'd try a new card before giving up. I've gone to cheaper smaller cards because I've damaged 3 of them now.

Hows the doser working for you buddy, it looks good i was gonna buy that one but got the dos instead

sahin! Corals are looking great and fat, you must be feeding them well! :jester:

Great pictures! Wish we could trade corals but that blasted pond between us is quite an obstacle to over come (as well as import/export laws :) )

Thank you. I hope to achieve the amazing red/pink pigments you bring out in your corals.

That stinks that the camera broke, but it's always nice to have an excuse to buy new toys. Smart move going with a brand that you know you can "borrow" some lenses for.

Hey sahin I have a t5i for sale with a 64gb memory card 450$? They are usually in upwards of 600$ pm me if you're interested

Yeah mate, these newer technology are such a step forward...my old doser was good no doubt but the Kore 5th can do so much more. :crazy1:

How do you rate B-Balance? What does it do for the SPS colours? I have a bottle of it but dont use it (I have other potions I bought needlessly as well - got a cupboard full of stuff  ).
haha gotta love the advancements in tech! NASA goodies are fun and we both know Andrew's jealous deep down in the stone age :lmao:

Dunno lol I dose it every second day and colours generally seem more vibrant when I'm dosing it, they dulled out a little when I did stop. Give it a whirl and see!

Yeah.. Curious about this b balance as well.. Don't know much about it..
I'm assuming sahin will have some insight..

I have a bottle of this potion, but never used/tested on my corals...wanted some first hand reviews of it as I dont know exactly what effect it has on SPS and or which colours it affects???

Hello Sahin,

Great photos ... almost as great as seen live!

Regarding APEX ... I am a huge fan! It saved my live already twice (power outage and ATO problem)

if you need any help please ping!

Check the "comprehensive manual" and also reeftronics.net maintained by Russ

Usually I then by all the accessories in US as they are cheaper than Europe. but unfortunately they only have the 220v EB6 in Europe!

All the best,
Rui

Hello Rui,

Thank you for the compliment.

Regards the Apex, how have you set it up to send you notification when power goes off? Is it on backup power?

That's a serious doser sahin!
If I'm ever sick in hospital, I'm going to ask them to instal one to maintain MY parameters!

Thanks. If you are sick, it can dose you meds and even a shot of whiskey :lol2:

The camera burnt through 3 Sandisk Extreme cards... :headwallblue: So last week I bought a Kingston memory card as they are known to be decent cards...didnt last more than a few days.

Hows the doser working for you buddy, it looks good i was gonna buy that one but got the dos instead
Hey buddy. The Kore5th is working well. How do you find the DOS? The DOS was one I considered at one point, seeing as I am planning to buy an Apex, but decided against it because of reading a few bad reviews.

sahin! Corals are looking great and fat, you must be feeding them well! :jester:

Great pictures! Wish we could trade corals but that blasted pond between us is quite an obstacle to over come (as well as import/export laws :) )
Thanks man. :) I am feeding them like crazy! So they better be happy.

Yeah, I wish we could swap too, but yes, the pond and laws are big barriers to that LOL.

Yup. Going Canon. I prefer Nikon to be honest (and feel Nikon is better overall, but Nikon stuff here in the UK costs more and there is much less around in terms of sales/used equipment, so prices of lens etc are generally higher with Nikon).

Hey sahin I have a t5i for sale with a 64gb memory card 450$? They are usually in upwards of 600$ pm me if you're interested

Thanks for the offer. But it looks like I am getting my bro's Canon 70D with an 18-55mm STM kit lens for a very good price from my bro. He hasnt even used the camera much. Me very happy about that. :)

Looking fantastic buddy!
Thanks for looking into my thread buddy.

Update: Tank is still on autopilot mostly. Managed to do a quick w/c on Friday. I am feeding 2-3 cubes plus the flake foods on the auto feeder. But since I have stopped the coral foods; KZ Coral Vitaliser/Seachem Fuel etc, I noticed the corals lightened ever so lightly, but otherwise corals are nice and healthy.

Nice acquisition on the camera front!
I have a 70d and love it. It's as good on the reef as it is in the hockey arena, soccer field and in the country. The autofocus in movie mode will come in very handy when you do a video of your tank!! :)

My pics to thread page ratio is higher than yours...and I dont have a camera yet. See my earlier post which states I am getting a replacement camera. :reading:

Cool!

How do you deal with white balance? My bro took a few snaps of my tank last year with this camera and even on the 10K setting they come out quite blue looking!

Do you have the 100mm Canon Macro lens? If not do you have another macro lens? The canon L series 100mm is way out of my price range, but non L Canon 100mm and new Tamron 90mm with vibration reduction and fast auto focus are both within my price range; the Tamron having way better features and around the same quality as the Canon.

As for video, yes, I hope to record some overhead footage of the SPS. :)

.......

Oh... I did not aware pics vs thread rate high is a compliment, I though it is the other way around........
Saying that....I think my pics to thread rate is higher than both of you....poor me :headwallblue:

I shoot at the 10k setting.. I find that with my all my light on, it produces fairly accurate looking shots- with radiums, 2 pure actinic 2 actinic + and 3 AI Prime with blues at around 70% and whites at 25%, the tank looks quite blue, so the shots reflect what I see fairly well.. But it depends on where in the tank I'm shooting..
I often warm up and sharpen the shots just using the photobucket editing options..
I find this method the easiest because with he 70d's wifi option, I pull the shots directly off of the camera and onto my phone and then upload directly to photo bucket.

I do have the 100mm L from canon. I traded a guy on kijiji for my old non L lens and some cash for the L.. Actually, I've purchased all of my lenses from kijiji, I think.. The shots from my old tank, at the beginning of my thread are using a 20d with the non L canon 100 m macro.. I'm not sure that for our purposes, the L is really necessary but I'm one of those idiots who always wants to get the 'best' regardless of whether I really need it..
I don't know much about the tamron but I usually hear good things about their lenses.. Do you know the website thedigitalpicture .com? It's an amazing resource for all things canon. The guy reviews every camera and lens canon makes as well as many non canon lenses..

I have to try some video in my tank..

Sahin the Canon 70D shoots very nice video as well as stills. It's quite a good camera. I have the original Canon 100 macro and it's a sharp lens. Better build quality than the Tamron, metal vs. plastic and better autofocus.

You can set a custom white balance in the menus. Find a piece of rigid white plastic that's opaque. Put it into the tank, fill the frame and take a shot of it. Go to WB in the menu, choose Custom WB and select the image. Depending on where you take the image you may want to create a new custom white balance. Directly under a blue + will be different than under a different T5.

LOL. You have some pro guy taking pics for you...so you are disqualified. :lolspin:

Lol

I like the apex dos so easy to program now i just need to get the wav..which reviews are you talking about Sahin?
I follow a few tank threads on the other forum and read about problems with the DOS etc. But if its working well for you then that good.

I'd love to have an 100mm L glass...:uhoh3: But will have to settle for nonL.
I will try and pickup the camera next week and start to play with it.

Please please post up a video with the L lens. I'd like to see what the quality is once uploaded to Youtube. Thanks for the info.

I might just settle for the Canon 100mm Macro. It will have way better resale value if I ever decide to go for the L glass later. And I will most likely get more years out of the Canon lens...the Tamron 90mm Macro I have for my Nikon has issues with the auto focus...

Thanks for the tips regarding the white balance. I will try both of your methods. My bro doesnt understand reef lighting and probably set something wrong. Hopefully I'll get it working alright. :)
