47G SPS...Revamp

regarding radions, here is a pic of my mates 8x2.2x2.2 using 4 radions

i dont think you need 3, 2 should suffice.

Amazing! You running wide angles? How high off the water are your units?

I agree 2 would be enough and adequate, 3 is total overkill but is better than 2. I have 4 over 52" and I noticed a big difference going from 3 to 4.

prob makes no difference since the coverage of each is approx 2x2?

I disagree. I suspect he's probably getting better colouration front to back, rather than side to side, if he goes with the (||||) configuration, as he'll have better coverage in the front and back.

Glad it was an error, I hope you had a very good holiday as well!

As a quick question for Sahin, Do you think 6 bulb ATI fixture would be enough for an sps tank with the rockwork being extremely low, IE 4-6 inches from the bottom.

Since my new tank is longer, I am in much need of another Radion, or grab a dimmable ATI for 350 with new bulbs..

Let me know thank you!

Feel embarrassed here...the STN was a FALSE ALARM. Thank you all for the suggestions/advice/discussion below.

So...what happened or what made me panic is as follows:

STN False alarm 1: Two of my acros (millepora) decided to fight each other at the bases. I looked today and those parts are now healing with one having gained some slight ground.

STN False alarm 2: I decided to take a closer look a the "STN" on the Red Planet and thats when I noticed that the STN'd piece wasnt even part of the Red Planet.:lol::lol: I used a tweezer and lifted the "joke" piece out and smiled. :D

Sums up my feelings pretty much after reading that...........

What size tank? How far away from fixture are those SPS going to be? If the tank itself is on the shallow side; ie less than 18inches, take away a couple of inches due to the bottom glass and sand, take away a few more inches as the SPS will be on rocks, take away the 1.5inch from the top rim, and you end up with SPS in a 10inch deep water column. With something like that, a 6 tube is more than enough.

Lol that was great!

His name is Chongbong.............

Biggles got a new sidekick called Chongbong  I dont think Chongbong and Kevin are going to get along.

That's why i don't panic anymore causes more harm than good. Glad things are going to be ok my friend
I did panic or rather stress out, but didnt take any immediate action and posted here instead while I try and figure things out...thats when I took a closer look at the STN to and realised what was going on. :lolspin:

Special agent Chongbong....no relation to his favorite zoa. ;)

Its his new sidekick I tell you.

Sahin, thanks for the reply, its a 36" tank, it'll be possibly 6-8" from the top of the waterline, it's a 24" tall tank and from the bulbs to the rock work will be around 16-20"

I do know the 36" runs weaker then the rest of them..

That is a tall tank. I estimate you'll hit 170+ PAR on the sand, so should hit decent PAR levels on the rockwork.

I dont believe that all 36inch T5 units are lower PAR than the rest of them. Was a test done on a 10+ sample? Or was this test done a sample of one or two and that same result is being repeated by many other reefkeepers? Maybe the fans were faulty or the voltage was set low or some other defect. With any decent active cooling and higher watts than say the 24inch version has to yield higher PAR.

I reckon keep the fixture 6inches above the waterline. Keep the acrylic cover clean and you shouldnt have low PAR issues. At some point you can add a reefbrite in front and a DIY one behind. Plenty of T5 tanks are run this way with stunning results.

Otherwise just get anther Radion; a used Gen2 Pro go for pretty cheap prices these days.

Hello.

I don't agree ... For the current tank 2 Radions specially is you use the 120 degree lenses should be more than fine.

sahin, how's your pacific sun dosing pump work with its kore 5th magnetic stirrer? Do they require two power cords or just one? Tell us more how you like it....thanks. I plan to replace my GHL 1st gen in next 6 months so want to hear from you.

thx.

Interested to hear also as I suddenly find myself shopping for a new doser. The Kore looks like a Cadillac( Rolls Royce in your area) unit to me. Is it worth the price? How was the programming? Thanks in advance, Scott.

I had to take off the Kore5th for the time being due to space issues. I cannot put it inside my cabinet, and I had it outside beside the tank under a small table...my 1 year old son keeps playing with it. :( If I place the doser inside the tank cabinet I need to find a safe place for the dosing fluids.

As far as the doser goes, its a fine unit. I have no problems with it. THe magnetic stirrer does have its own power supply last time I checked. I didnt setup that because I havent started to dose yet.

Hi Scott. As I explained above, the doser is fine. It is costly, but programming etc was easy. The unit is built well and the small pump components seem high quality. See my post above about my little one messing up my plans for it though.

Hello sahin ...
What about some pictures?
Cannot post photos at moment buddy. I cannot say much because I cant talk about what work I do, but the camera and memory card I agreed to use for work and then had to hand in as evidence. Work will keep the memory card (64GB) as evidence and will give my camera back in the new year. They will also pay for a new memory card. But it means no photos for a while.
