5.56 225 Peninsula reboot

Ahem Mr. Electrician.

I finally got around to labeling my EB8 and EB4 with a label maker. In case there is a prob you can quickly unplug something. Or when I'm not home the wife can.

Looks great man.

This is my project for this weekend. To clean up this mess :(

I plan on mounting everything on a removable backer board.

Wish me luck

There has to be a better way to run our aquariums! I have an idea to help clean up some of that mess we all have under or near our tanks.

I ran into the same problem as Cody, where to put doseing pumps etc? Today I am replacing my temporary backer board with the pertinent version. It is finished in flexseal so If I need to change things later, the holes can be easily patched.

Fixed this mess today

First I setup a rio 2500 for a return pump and some temp heaters, I knew this was going to take a while.

Then I laid all the equipment out on the backer board and marked out where the holes needed to go.

After that I cut the holes, broke all the edges with sand paper and painted the board and upholstered the front of the board.

Next I mounted app the equipment to the front of the board.

power supplies were velcro attached to the back of the board.

Made all the connections.

Then secured the board with screws to blocks that I had mounted inside the cabinet earlier.

There's still some touchup left but it's just about there.

Next project is to skin the stand.

It can get real ugly fast u rather deal with brown algae dont let it turn to green hair algae. The only 2 can help u are tang and snail. If u let the brown become green then only sea urchin will touch the green.

Omid gave me about 10 snails that had outgrown his tank. They are doing a bang-up job on the alage :D

I have diamond back goby

Lol no goby in sps tank. They shift the sand and make the tank cloudy. Also they stir the sand and make it land on corals if you dont blow them out eventually it will accumulate enough to cover the coral and no light creating death spot.

SPS grow over dead spot.

Can you give us more details on this. I am going to build one after the flood I had yesterday. Tank, Aquascaping and wire management look great on your new tank.

Sure,

I just took a piece of scrap 1/2" acrylic and drilled 3 holes in it.

I took some time and sanded the edges so it would look nice but that's not necessary.

The wire is 22-2 alarm wire and I just stripped it back. The block just holds the wires in place.

If saltwater contacts the 2 wires, it completes the circuit and sends and alarm

I used the APEX breakout box, they are rather inexpensive and connected to the com(mon) and #12 screw terminals.

Then I told the apex to sound the alarm if detects a leak. (another line sounds the alarm if my refugium high-water float switch trips)

Did the same thing with the email in case I'm not home

Then I logged into Apex fusion and told it to email me and text me and my wife in case of any alarm.

My tank stinks

My tank stinks

This is new to me. I have had tanks smell in the past due to very poor husbandry but this new setup smells almost all the time. I'm running ozone 24X7 as opposed to 3hrs a night now, fresh carbon every week and cleaning the skimmer cup every other day and changing socks every 2-3 days and still it stinks much of the time.

Not real thrilled with running that much carbon or that much O3 but I have to get rid of the smell. It's not strong or pungent but it is there.

I'm thinking of ordering one of these

Dysons are cool but realistically ineffective IMO. How about a 6-8" "grow" carbon filter with adjustable fan instead?
