BTW guys, sched. 80 fittings are slim pickings at HD or Lowes BUT, some of them are the same price as sched. 40. You have to check closely. Some are quite a bit more but at my local Lowes, the sched. 80 unions are the same price as the sched. 40. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.

Dan, I have separate containers. Keep in mind that the water from the supplier should not go into your system so what I do is I have a container with a small BV near the bottom. I pour in the new arrivial and start a drip. As the container fills, I remove a little water out the BV. Once the acclimation is done, which I normally do for about 24 hours, then I place them in the QT. The containers should be easily moved so you can clean them after each use.

The QT is BB with a Prism skimmer. The prism has a compartment for media so I can run carbon, phosphate or nitrate remover, or even crushed coral to help calcifying animals acclimate. No sump! That is too much to deal with especially when the QT is used for an ailing fish. I need to be able to clean the QT easily and quickly. With the Prism it is an easy wash down, remove media, wash out tank, and refill with fresh SW. It takes less than half an hour to change out the QT so it is ready to use. A sump would complicate that and I just don't see any reason to have one.

Well I am starting on my aquascaping now...

Didn't take as long as I was thinking, turned out pretty good on my first attempt...

What do you all think ?? This is just about all of the 525lbs of reeferrocks that I got from Capt Jer... Once I get the water in and salt mixed up I will be adding a few more select LR pieces that I have cooking...

Will you go BB?

I was thinking about doing a faux SB, and then decided against itââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I already had the HDPE so it was getting usedââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I am going to set the tank up with just the HDPE and after a little time if I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t like it then I will add a small layer of aragonite (med grain) over the HDPEââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

One suggestion:
While you have your rock dry and out of the water, go ahead and drill the bottoms of the rock and insert some plastic coat hangers to lift the rocks off the starboard. It will help tremendously with the flow under the rocks.

I was thinking about doing that, but I think I would have to have a lot of the ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œpegsââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ in order to keep the rock structures stable... I used a good amount of smaller pieces for the base and the larger ones on top of that... I have a few extra MAG pumps laying around that I had planned on making a "spray hose" out of one and when I get settlement under the rocks I will just spray under there when needed...

Well, I didn't originally do that to my tank until the weekend before last and when I pulled out all the rocks, there was plenty of junk under them. It doesn't take a second to drill a 1/4" hole w/ a masonary bit into the bottom of those porous rocks, just be careful not to get to close to the edge.

Remember that the rock will be lighter when water is in the tank so that should help things stabilize.

How many pounds of LR do you plan on adding?

Right now there is about 525lbs of base rock in the display and I will prob add a little LR, don't have a set number in mind, just what ever looks good as for all of the left over LR that I don't place into the display it will go into the 150gal ref...

Awesome aquascaping, looks good!

About the heater talk on the last page...

After all is said and done with my pumps running I could get away with 1 watt per gallon. Equipment adding heat to your water makes a big difference on what you need for additional heat.

heater

very true my heater only kick on once in the last year plus and that was because the wife left a window open all night in the winter.

Looks great! Are you going to bridge the three stacks? Fine job on the StB. The thread of the month is interesting, it is about rubble rock bottoms, have you considered it?

If I could find a piece large enough to span from the left most stack to the middle I might place a bridge piece there...

StB ??

I don't think I have seen that thread, do you have a link ??
