Look for the Thread of the Month in Reefkeeping Online (www.reefkeeping.com, last entry on the page).

StB is short for Starboard, it seems.

DOH, I am not sure how many times I have looked over Reefkeeping Online, but I don't think I have ever looked at any of the Threads of the Month, always TOTM and a few other things... Maybe I should start following those as well...

I was thinking StB meant starboard, but I just wanted to make sure...

Thanks Melev...

Sorry, I didn't mean to bog down your thread :D , yep I first typed SB .... thought StB was cleaver :p . Anyways, nice job on the Star Board!

Well my RO/DI Aquatec 8800 Booster Pump came today... I was getting 60psi now with the pump I am getting 100psi, so about 65% increase... I have had on hand an extra 1 micron sediment filter, carbon block, along with 2x DI filters so that once I started the fill up I could make sure I has nice new filters to work with... Also my TDS meter has had a reading of 1 and 2 the last few wks, so it was time for them to get replaced anyways...

As of 9:30 PM the tank started its long awaited fill up of RO... I will keep coming down every now and then through out the nite to check on everything...

Tomorrow I will be working on the sump / ref area some more and hopefully get that knocked out by Sunday sometime...

I am getting about 24 psi! Have a booster pump on the way.

WOW that is crap... I have read that RO units requires like a minimum of 30-35psi to operate...

You guys will love your booster pumps. They make a world of difference in production rates.;)

asnatlas, do you replace your DI filters with new filters every time? That is what I used to do until a few months ago when I finally smartened up and ordered refillable cartridges and bulk resin. It ends up being a lot cheaper in the long run. And little did I know, I had been using refillable canisters all along. I guess the ones I was buying were refillable and packed with bulk resin by the person I was getting them from. So now I have several extras so I just keep them filled for a quick change-out when needed.

You must be pretty excited now that the tank is finally filling. The race is on to see whose tank gets filled first between you and jnarowe.:D

Well we know how that race will turn out! I think I have about 10 inches or so right now. I'll post some pics and a measurement tonight on my thread.

You're filling the tank with RO/DI water?...and you're going to mix salt right in the system? Is that how its done with big tanks?

I suppose that makes sense. I was thinking of mixing SW in batches and filling batch by batch....I knew it would be painful.

yeah I will mix once the system is full. It can be done either way but in theory it would take longer to make batches. Also, while waiting for the next batch, what you have in the system will be slowly evaporating and the salinity will be rising. I figure if I mix after it's full, then I can get it to the right salinity and start with the auto top-off making it more stable from the beginning.

The way I filled my tank was. In the tank I was filling it with ro water only, and my sump I filled it with ro and dumped ton of salt mixed pumped to the tank and again filled it with ro added ton fo salt and pumped to the tank. It worked great, later it took a day or so to bring the salinity to normal. Goodluck guys.

I started at 9:30pm last nite and its almost 4:30pm now, So 19hrs of non-stop filling and its almost 7" (94.5x46.5x7 = 133gal) only 76% to go...

So far I really like the booster pump... I need to get the incoming water up to about 75-80deg so that the production rate will increase even more... As you stated I am very excited to get this filled that I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t setup my bucket /w heater like I was thinking about...

I noticed that the DI cartridges looked refillable so now that I have 4 on hand (my unit is a 5 stage so has dual DI on it)... Where do you get your DI in bulk at ??

Congrats on getting that tank wet asnatlas! That's great news.

I buy DI resin from SpectraPure but there's also a place called Resin Depot, I buy a gallon of resin at a time, it's realativley cheap. (That is a very odd statement in this hobby) I have links on my computer at the office I'll post'em tomorrow.

Yes, I am filling the tank with RO and once I get the entire system filled and check everything to make sure there are no leaks and all of my plumbing is good and I have everything set the way I want I will add the salt to the sump a bucket at a time and then once I get close to the ruff calculation of SG I want I will use my Refractometer to test and add the salt in smaller amounts until I reach the level I want... I will turn on the Tunzes to help with the mixing process and at the same time I will start heating the water as well...
