6100 streams with no multicontroller?

Can I use a pair of 6100 streams with no multicontroller? I understand that I will have no control, they will just be full on, but will they work without the multicontroller? I'm asking because I'm trying to buy them and the store is telling me that they won't work on their own like this.

I think you at least need a single controller, Susan. I'm looking at the manual for my 6000's and the hookup diagram includes a controller. The reason you can buy the 6000 and 6100 seperately is if you are hooking them up to a multicontroller using the branch adaptors.

If you don't plan on controlling them, just get a pair of 6080's or something.

Thanks Jason. Maybe I'll buy 3 6080's. I don't need the variable speed control for a FOWLR, I just want to be sure I have plenty of circulation is all.

You can control them via the included driver. At the very least, I would get a single controller so you can use them in pulse mode and use the photo-cell for lower flow at night.

Nevermind, the guy checked with Tunze. You can indeed use them without the controller. I'll have them next week.

Sorry Susan for missing this thread, Yes, they will work without the controller.

No problem. I have it worked out. I was lucky to get them apparently. Lots of places are out of stock. These must be very popular! They're a lifesaver for me. I really didn't want to drill my new tank and void the warranty. Now I get great circulation for my fish and don't have to worry about the warranty.

Susan, why are you going with the 6100's if you aren't getting a controller? The 6080s push just about the same amount of water and are $200 less, each. Or are you planning on getting a controller later on?

6080's do 2250gph and 6100's do 3170gph. I'd need to buy 3 6080's to make up roughly the same circulation. Not much price difference when you look at it that way.

2 pumps hanging in the tank is better than 3.

I may down the road decide I want to try a fancy multicontroller. I can't do that if I go with the 6080's now.

And most important, I found two 6100's in stock :)

Have you also ordered the special braces necessary to hang the pumps from the inside of an acrylic tank? The stock hangers that come with the Tunze controllers are designed to hang on a tank with either no trim, or a very small one. You'll need something special for your Tenecor.

I've decided to just rig up something temporary for now until the magnet holders are available. The Tenecor has a completley enclosed top. However there is one hole in the back corner I'm hoping to use for one and the other I figure I'll hang from the teeth of an overflow.
