A Splash of Color

Andrew,
That orange and yellow millie is sick, reminds me of the acid trip a bit. All those corals shots are brilliant, glad to see the Bigglesjuice is working well for you, the colors are outstanding as usual, great job!!!
Cheers :)

Outstanding Andrew

Thanks Mike :)

It's a metallic sparkly highlight on the corallite edges but is turning very peachy at the tips rather than the crazy cool pinker look your piece has Perry - bring it over and we'll do a swap

Been wondering why this purple frag is browning and today i dropped in from work and caught the culprit - the tang is shading it while i'm not around. This is why you gotta keep an eye on your fish people........

That's some crazy color you got going on there Andrew! I am working on an Australian connection to get some acros out here so maybe one day I can get some of these colors in my tank too.

Thanks Joe, you know who i'd recommend to organize a shipment from if you could as Chris and Nick filled my display lol. ;)

Andrew, I've started on monday with BJ method, now I'm dosing 1 drop of lugol's and 0,5 ml of triton manganese supplement for my 140 gal tank…"¦"¦"¦. let's wait for coral coloration improvement"¦..

Andrew, why do you dose 2 products with Manganese (Hard Trace + Koralcolor) rather than Koralcolor with a much higher daily dose?

Good to hear you and the tank are doing well mate :) And that you managed to blow away Ken and John lol but did they swear at the door? :p

The worst part is knowing the colours in person and mind blowing lol the new layout looks good and I'm intrigued to see what you've done on the right as you were talking about changing it last time too! :)

Well you've made me really sad that I didn't get the other little piece of this spathulata because it's gorgeous! lol not that I would have had room to place it at all! :uhoh3:

Thanks mate, i was looking at your latest pics and i reckon your little blue colony very similar to the one i posted. It has orange polyps on the radial corallites and white ones at the axial's. The blue is a very unique shade as if it has a tiny bit of silver or grey dusted over the blue and under the blue is a hint of purple - just enough to make it stand out from all your other blues.

Tried to get the color close for you to see in this pic, what ya think ?

Matt's Madness is doing what it likes in regards to once again shifting color :)

Yeah... This coral STILL makes me crazy!!!
So does the spathulata...
So does the fireworks whatever..
Just crazy..
Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggg.!?.!!?...
It hurts..
All over.......
Can't..........
Look..........
Away..........

My target is to dose .016 mg/l per day, then see if I need to up the dosage from there.
Joe, regarding manganese, why do you going to dose exactly this amount (.016 mg/l per day)? It is easy to calculate and mix DIY manganese supplement (dry manganese cloride easy to purchase and very cheap), but we need to know (even approximately, just as a starting point) how much manganese should be dosed. Where do you got this number, .016 mg/l per day?

Good luck my friend, i hope you see some good results :)

Wow Andrew the fireworks and whatever that blue one is look sick!

Looks like another great day for BJs :lmao:

Thanks Tim :p

Andrew, why do you dose 2 products with Manganese (Hard Trace + Koralcolor) rather than Koralcolor with a much higher daily dose?

I use the trace hard for all the elements since i stopped water changes before Xmas last year, since it's been four months i'm going to get a bucket of salt in the next week or two and start doing 15% fortnightly water changes again at which time i will stop the trace hard and just use the koralcolor to see how things go compared to no water changes.

When Dave was over - 'what salt brands have you got in stock Dave ?'
'None'

Good one mate.....

I don't abide profanity as you know young Dom.......... :worried:

Dave is going to design and build me a 60x24x14" sump including a 28" section for frags with 6x24W T5's over it - or the 250W Radium as bloody Dave suggested. Considering Dave is the only LFS in Aus i know of that stocks 250W and 400W Radium bulbs and the T5's we use i think you and i are set when it comes to lighting supplies buddy :)

Lol you've got just as many crazy pretty pieces hidden away in that bucket of color you call a reef tank Matt ;)

Outstanding Andrew

Thanks Greg :)

Ok, thanks, I think I found source of this calculation ........... but it appears that the correct number should be 0,00016mg/l (100 times smaller).

Joe is old and doddery like me.............

In case any of you are lucky enough to come across a freshly collected piece of fireworksy type acro this is what it looks like. The big piece and most of the other stuff was gone when i visited the shop last year but the little circled piece is my one. They had bleached white polyps so don't ignore pieces just because you don't see the bright orange 'fireworks'. Behind it is red milli for reference and behind that is lemonadey stuff which i don't like.
I would be all over that pink milli.....................

This is like a 'wanted poster' for wild fireworks.........

Ok, thanks, I think I found source of this calculation ( http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24440629&postcount=2432 ) but it appears that the correct number should be 0,00016mg/l (100 times smaller).

Correct the amount should be 0.000166 ppm (same as 0.000166 mg/L) daily
These numbers come from Triton's recommendation. I also know of other products who use 0.00018 ppm as their daily number. I think either of those are fine, but in many cases this is a starting point and the idea is to bring that up a little and see what happens, NSW is around 0.002 ppm and Mn is used up rather quickly in the home aquarium.

Andrew is playing around with Mn numbers with some good results, but we don't know that actual amount of Mn he is dosing just the product. It would be very helpful if we could come up with a dosage that works across a wide sampling of tanks.

But when raising levels I would caution you to not just arbitrarily dump it in your tank, Mn is normally found is very low levels and having too much above NSW levels could cause bleaching, although at what level that is I am not sure.

I am getting that limit defined a little, first sign of too much Manganese was Garf bonsai went from purple to golden brown, loss of purple intensity accross the board. I discontinued Mn dosing and kept all others the same and the purple is already returning.

That's great Matt, getting a handle on these trace elements will be a big help too all. I just started zinc dosing daily and starting next week will be trying a test formula for a not yet released reef supplement.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Andrew!

Joe, do you know the daily dose for triton zinc supplement?
