A Splash of Color

I don't abide profanity as you know young Dom.......... :worried:

Dave is going to design and build me a 60x24x14" sump including a 28" section for frags with 6x24W T5's over it - or the 250W Radium as bloody Dave suggested. Considering Dave is the only LFS in Aus i know of that stocks 250W and 400W Radium bulbs and the T5's we use i think you and i are set when it comes to lighting supplies buddy :)
Yes of course my mistake :uhoh2: lol

For some reason I read that as tank not sump and got really confused as to why you were downsizing and going really shallow :hmm5: then read it a fourth time and the sump bit got me lol. That's a seriously awesome sump and should give you shitloads more room!! I like Dave's Radium idea :eek2: but you're spot on about him having us covered for lighting! The man just knows what to do :) So glad he's getting the Radiums now though, it makes life soooo much easier!

Smashing colours Andrew. If only it was possible to hook my tank up to yours...I'd be pulling same great colours.

i'm going to get a bucket of salt in the next week or two and start doing 15% fortnightly water changes again at which time i will stop the trace hard and just use the koralcolor to see how things go compared to no water changes.

It will be very interesting to see if there are differences with or without WC

Hey Andrew, do you have any tricks to evicting a hairy crab from an acro table without removing the acro from the DT? I've tried sneaking up on him with various sets of tongs but he always eludes me :furious:

Kebab skewer and a sauce of your choice...

Seriously though, if its a bad crab and he's eating your sps then the only choice you have is a wooden kebab skewer. I've seen my LFS do that so many times with bad acros. Of course Andrew chucks Kevin in the tank who does the job.

Hi Andrew,

long time lurker on your thread and gotta say your tank is one of my top 5 fave tanks!

a question for you - after going back and forth between different skimmers, I bought a deltec 1455 for my 130 gallon shallow tank since you seem to have much success with it. The skimmer should be arriving in few days and I was wondering what water level you keep the skimmer in? also if you have any tips you can give me for dialing in the skimmer it would be fantastic!

Wooden so the light won't reflect and scare him off? Is this with lights on or off?

Definitely and it depends how you like to do it. Some with the lights on or off, some I've heard even use only candle light. :bounce1:

:rollface:Andrew I dare say you are overdue to provide us with a large "photo dump" rather than just teasing us with these "onesy-twosy" picture downloads.

Hey Dom, i've ordered the sump 1650x600x350 or 65"x24"x14" roughly. Dave is customizing it to suit my needs including a double sock trap just before the return pump so i can clean the sump without water changes. Has a 800x600 frag section included and i have two quad 24W T5 units coming so i will have 8 x 24W illuminating the 10" deep frag tank - i like to be thorough when it comes to lighting as you know and can always throw the 250W radium over it if the urge takes me (likely at some point).
Dave has ordered me a gyre 150 thingy as well so it's action stations around biggles reef lately lol.

Thanks mate, might require a long bloody hose i reckon Sahin........

We can make a chain of tank all over the world i'm in!!! :)

Stef

Lol Stef, just bring me the end of the hose buddy and i'll hook you guys up..........

It will be very interesting to see if there are differences with or without WC

Good man Greg, i will pop in and see what you've been hiding mate :)

I put a blob of super glue gel on the end of some JG 1/4" tubing and at night i use a torch to illuminate the crab whilst jabbing him with the super glue blob. Crabs do not cope well once covered in super glue.

Hi mate, i run the skimmer in 9.5" of water with the water level in the screw adjust riser tube kept at or below the level of where the clear skimmer body meets the white neck bit that the cup screws onto. If you don't have a lot of nutrients cycling through then at the join level will be a good starting point. I have my riser level 1/2" below the bottom of the white neck join atm. The easiest way to judge whether you have a skimmer set right and sized correctly is to look at the top of the neck where the foam spills over. If there is almost always some foam bubbles resting at the top recently produced you are looking good. If there is nothing for hours at a time it's likely you have your skimmer set wrong or it's just too big and efficient for your water volume. I have the air intake wide open.

Hey Greg, i haven't taken any pics for a while but i will asap :)

View from the back at twilight, haven't taken this view into consideration at all when scaping which is pretty obvious as it looks pretty crap in regards to looking at all natural.

Your tank is absolutely incredible! The color varieties are amazing Andrew :) I love the shallow tanks, so awesome to see the acros having little rock, placed on smaller pieces where they can eventually encrust and takeover, I simply love that all you see in your tank is corals. Outstanding update on a magnificent Acro dominated reef!!!
Cheers,
