ABC Reefs 1st Anniv/Frag Swap/Sale 11/14

Booze

Booze

I hate to be the party pooper, but you can't legal serve alcohol, even if you serve it to adults. You don't have a liquor license permitting it. You could apply for one, but there is a fairly steep cost for getting one (even for a single event), and its way too late to get one in time for next weekend. Besides, it might even violate your lease. An alternative would be to bring in a caterer who already has a license. And to put the final kabosh on the idea, I wouldn't recommend you serving it, even with a license, unless you had insurance to do it (I seriously doubt the insurance you have now provides that type of coverage).

I recommend you consult with your attorney if you have any more questions....

You can put this idea on your list for the next frag swap.

There should be plenty of parking. Just make sure the landlord doesn't get an invite. Honestly, beer on a Saturday morning doesn't sound very appealing to me.

Recently, a new restaurant local to me was serving free alcoholic drinks, including to my wife and to me, during the few months prior to receiving their liquor license, because they could not legally sell them prior to its receipt.

That's the best time to drink Right before the game!!! lol.

But yes, as stated a few times. If you are bringing things to the SWAP (setup in particular) you need to call Tim at ABC. There is a possibility that it would be full and he'd have to turn people with tanks away so please PLEASE make sure to give him a call.

Hey all, in addition to all the crazy stuff and specials we will have in the store, i will also be bringing in lots of crazy frags. There will be 2 or 3 Bazooka joe watermelon frags available and lots of other LE corals. Get here early if you want a crack at them and all the other awesome stuff we will have!

Anyone need holes drilled drop me a pm. I've can do 1/2" to 2" bulkheads and smaller ones for ato float switches.

It would probably be safer for Tim and Dave if they did not provide alcohol. It makes them liable if someone leaves and gets into an accident.

Pretty sure the BYOB releases them of liability.

As of today, there are 46 people registered for this swap. If you have not done so, make sure you register on Fragswapper.com so Tim and Dave have an idea how many people to prepare for.

Just got home from picking up some awesome fish at ABC Reefs. Thanks guys for all the help and more importantly having the fish I was looking for in stock. Had to be fate right? Now wish me luck.

That frag tank, light setup is the bomb. The semi black sand bed is going to make those frags POP. Should be a good time had by all... Can't wait...

Don't know if this has been mentioned or planned yet or not, but would we be able to do name tags? Maybe with "real" name in addition to screen name?

I'm terrible with names to begin with, and have been out of the area for a while, so without tags, I'm probably gonna have a lot of awkward "heeey!! You're. . . . . . that guy. . . " moments.

Yup, name tags will be available. I myself will be putting both on. I guess it's optional but highly recommend everyone does.

I've got a brand new, never opened, minty fresh 62mm (2 3/8") diamond hole saw from glass-holes.com. It's the right size for most 1.5" bulkheads (i.e. the typical plain black ABS ones, at least). I won't be using it as my next tank is gonna be wood.

I can bring it to the meet if someone wants it. $14.25 new, make an offer. Or promise me a frag or two once my tank is up. :)

Also, I won't be bringing a tank, but I am planning on bringing a nano-sized LED rig, if anyone is curious about LED lighting or wants to see what their frags look like under LED. I've seen a few of you locals on the LED threads in the DIY forum so this might be a good time to chat about it.

Is this one of the ones you've made up? I've done a strip of the 1W led's but want to see how the 3W ones are done with the buckpucks and power supplies.

Yeah, home-made. It's running on DIY drivers though, not buckpucks. Though the functionality is nearly identical from an end-user perspective: buckpucks are dimmable via analog 0 - 5v DC signal and can handle 6 LEDs per driver, mine are PWM-dimmable and can do 8 LEDs. The only real difference is that buckpucks run on a buck topology (i.e. they chop voltage down to the required amount, so the power supply used has to be more than the desired drive voltage) vs. mine, which are boost topology, which is a hair more efficient if you design it right (they increase the output voltage, so the power supply has to be less than desired output voltage.)

Shoot me a PM if you want more info, or we can just chat at the swap.
