any "old time" SPS folks still visit this forum?

I'm still in...
I've been reefing since 1988
on this forum since 2003
Of all the things I have learned living in the northeast is a back up power supply is a must...

I'm back at it again myself. My first salt tank was in '95 (doesn't seem that long ago to me but I guess it kind of is..) Then was keeping a nice mixed reef by 97-98 then in '99 I wanted to start transitioning to sps and was managing to keep a small variety of montis and Bnest and all the normal "entry level" sps with some success but nothing like I wanted. Thats when I joined here in '01 and it changed for the better and since then I've been sps dominate. I did have to shut down my 100 gallon reef in 2009 after having an MI and lots of alother health complications there after, but now my health is back to where I feel I can take care of a reef tank in the manor in which I would like to. So I'm in the buying and building stage of what will be 200gal this time right now (there will be the ubiquitous build thread, lol).

when I started reading RC again i was so happy to see the site pretty much resembled what I had remembered, however alot of the content was different. One thing that I thought was just a bit over the top was the amount of led threads, I'm sorry but you can pry my radiums from my cold dead hands...lol

Maybe because Im older now but I feel alot less inclined to reply to threads even if I feel I would have a good insight on whatever it maybe. It seems its easy to become an instant expert these days. I actually experienced one of these instant experts recently and talking to them is frustrating, its like they kinda get the jist of the topic but they get all the details al screwy since they likely have no first hand experience with it...

My goodness, it's crazy to see all these faces once again, since I've joined RC. After all these years I am still with a 40G (Albeit this would be my fourth one?).

I still feel like the golden age of reefing fun was around 2001-2004. After that, the mania started trickling in and now it's just too much. Like many others here, I just haven't found it worth posting much because of all the flaming and lack of anger management on their part. It has taught me severe patience, and to just read instead of post.

lol I still remember the crazy bare-bottom war that went on here soon after I joined.. and then the exodus of all the major contributors. Fun times

Not an old timer, but I remember the great times of RC. I was fortunate to have a job that allowed me way to much time to surf the net and I sucked it all in. I liked seeing the fads come and go, I didn't like it when "experts" left.
I haven't had a real tank since 2008, I hope to have something I can be proud of again this year.

I started with marine fish in the late 70s. My first sump was made by Albert Theil. I remember speaking to him about the skimmer and the use of poly filters. I remember talking to Julien Sprung when I had my first reef tank with it's wet-dry filter. I had some peculiar invert living on a leather coral and he identified it for me. I absolutely qualify as an old reef geek.

I've been frustrated, fascinated, complacence, prosperous, triumphant and bankrupt with SPS since 1998 :p

I still speak to him almost every day. He is a friend of mine. I started in the hobby a couple of years before he did

Great idea Gary!

I'm still here and can't believe how fast that first decade went by.

Keith, Are you back and running? Rumor has it you took a break. I'm just sorry I missed the break down.

Joe
