Anyone tried the Coralvue Reeflux 10k bulbs?

I like the 14K side personally. Are you running HQI ballasts? I've heard others report the Phoenix are whiter with HQI.

Have you been able to compare growth between the two sides yet?

Hi Schanz.
I am running HQI ballasts and the Phoenix are still quite blue. Fortunately, I am seeing good growth under both bulbs, but certainly more under the 10Ks. The frags you sent me have encrusted at least 1/2" to 3/4" radius from the frag and have grown out significantly as well under the 10Ks with a little bit less under the 14Ks.
But, I'm just happy to have things growing again :)
For a color reference, under the 10Ks, the pink with blue tip mille you sent me looks dark tan with just a tinge of pink with dark purple tips at first glance, but when you get real close and stare at it the pink coloration starts to show as does the blue tips. I am pretty sure that this same frag under the 14Ks would look pink and blue as it should.
So, I like the colors of the corals under the 14Ks, but the brightness the 10Ks give the tank overall. Trying to figure out which bulb will give me the best of both worlds, the Reeflux 10Ks or 14Ks?

I go back and forth every time I change bulbs. Bottom line is there is no one perfect bulb. I'm back to 10K xm and vho. Still adjusting to it after having AC 14K for so long.

I just ordered a 400 watt 10k to replace a 6 month old AB 10k.
I will take pics if anyone is interested.

Sean

Would love to see pics, Sean.
I am waiting until my 10K Reeflux burns in, and I will post a couple as well.

i'm burning in 400w 10k's on a Son Agro ballast right now. First impression... it looks like radium. We'll see if it whitens up a bit.

You must be running the standard Coralvue 10,000K? The Reeflux Coralvue bulb is very white right out of the box and looks nothing like the Radium.

Kevin

can somebody w/ the reeflux confirm that i have the same bulb (perhaps a pic)? i'd take a pic of mine but i don't have a digicam. the internals look as follows, starting from the socket: strange looking clear circle of glass, a capacitor and wire braid in a loop, the part that burns, another wire braid.

Does anyone have accurate in-tank pictures of these bulbs without supplementation?

Also..

What is the PAR rating of these bulbs?

What ballasts are best? m80/m58/electronic?

I checked sanjays site but I couldn't find a list of PAR ratings :/

I actually posted a thread on these about 6 weeks ago on the Lighting, filtration etc forum.

Much better information here.

What caught my eye was that in Sanjay's test, with the 400se 10kk Reflux on a PFO HQI ballast they were "off the charts for Kelvin" and right next to the AquaConnect bulbs for PAR!

For about 1/3 the price and you get find them for sale.

Couldn't get much feedback though. I'll follow here!

Some one mentioned switching from "XM's" on the first page. From 10kk or 20kk please.

Here is a photo of a Reeflux (left) and Hamilton (right), both 175W 10K. Was a bit surprised at the size differential. I've been using the Hamiltons for 2 years, and just switched to Reeflux a couple days ago. I want to reserve final judgment until proper burn-in, but the Reeflux definitely seems brighter and a touch more bluish. Will post tank comparison pics later.

On the bulb I had tested (400w SE on PFO HQI ballast) the Reeflux had just slightly higher PAR value than the AquaConnect bulb but the Reeflux was newer and the difference was insignificant.

I will post pictures of a bunch of bulbs so you can see the insides tonight.

Kevin

Kevin, what is your impression between the AC and Reeflux since you've run them both. Coral growth, Coral color, preceived (visual) color of light in tank?

This would be GREAT to have your opinions on!

Thanks,

Todd

Here is a picture of some 10,000K 400W SE bulbs.
They are from left to right:
Coralvue Reeflux, Coralvue, XM, Ushio, and a Radium (20,000K).

Regards,
Kevin
PS: I have been only running about 1 month with the Reeflux. I generally have to run about 6 months minimum before I can say how I like the bulb.
