anyone tried to using Jebo WP40?

Fish street just told me that running these controllers below 18.5v could damage the controller.

This is the first time I heard this. Did they relay this from the manufacturer Jebao or just their own recommendation? Can you post the email or official communication that you received from them on this?

Dear Jason,

What is for your order ID? And the pump suitable for operation for 18.5V or above, otherwise it have a risk damage on the controller

Try to change with original supply on the system to test on it

thanks

Eric
Hello,

I have an adjustable power supply on my new WP40 and when the voltage is tunnel down to below 19v, the pump mods don't all work. The low, high, and wave 1 work fine but the other three act funny. The pump will shut off and only come on for a few seconds. The pump is not going through the normal preset cycles.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your time.

They may just be saying that to cover their a__.

No one has really gotten into the new controller yet and seen if it is reducing the control voltage sent to the pump rather then incoming voltage like many of us have done with LED dimmers and what not.

Even reducing the incoming voltage has not caused any issues in the short term that we have been doing it.

Is anyone else put off by thee fact that they named it "wp40"... Like cant they come up with an original name? On one hand i want one... on the other i dont want to support a copy cat company out of china... but maybe thats just me.

jebao wp25 power heads

jebao wp25 power heads

i just got 2 WP25 from FS in hong kong

it only took 8 days and i got them wow do they work great for under $100 shipped

but the best part that i want to share is that 1 of the power supply's was DOA

so i called FS and within 8 days they not only replaced the bad power supply
they gave me a better one that controllers the speed free no charge

cant complain about that
good store to do business with fast shipping

WP25 rock and they are very silent

ERIC at FS is the man to deal with fast responses

Sorry to hear about the DOA power supply.
When I've dealt with them for CS they have been very quick and very good except the 1 instance where I was having a problem with the night sensor and they just said it was an unwarranted part and refused to even assist a little bit.

Did your WP25 come with the new variable speed controller?

The power supply for the WP25 is different than the WP40 and consist's of a wal-wart that is the transformer. If FS is sending you power supply that has variable speed on it they are probably sending you this one that is not produced by Jebao...

no i did not get the new controller they are not selling them yet
they sent me the power supply shown in the above post

they could have just replace it with the standard one
but they up dated me to the better one

Why would FS tell me not to run the voltage down below 18.5v then sell a power supply that goes down to 12v.

W t f?

Because those PS are not manufactured for the Jebao pumps, it's an off the shelf unit they chose to offer due to demand. If you go back we (some of us) have been advocating against using this method of control since the beginning.

Reducing the incoming voltage is not the advised method of slowing the pump down, but it does work and there has not been any proof that it reduces the life of the pump.

The preferred method to control the speed of the pump is to reduced the voltage being delivered to the pump along the control line.

I know they are going to make the new controller available (Free of charge) to their customers that purchased the WP-25 and got the old controller.

I've been trying to find out if they are going to do the same thing for those who bought the WP-40.

I'm a Tunze/Ecotech user, both have proved reliable in my 7 years of reefing. Warranty has never been an issue even when the product is out of warranty. Some like a cheap non-time tested proven pump. Me I have more then $300 invested into my tank, I value my livestock's health to risk something to save a few bucks. Again, if in a year this product is still functioning with no issues. Consider me a supporter, until then........................

I am also a Tunze user...(have 2 6105's on my 215 gal DT), but I wanted to add flow to my tank and didn't want to spend another $800...so I took a shot and spent $140 on two of these Jebao wp40's in a group buy, (I originally was going to purchase a pair of JBJ Oceanstream duo 1600gph wave makers for the same price). In my opinion each wp40 is equal to a Tunze 6205.

China has a very different culture when it comes to names, this is the way they operate, not in a vindictive attempt to steal customers by trickery, but in a way to make their product sound as good as the competition, its more of a compliment to the like names. Its hard to explain how much they value a name, but it has a lot to do with why you see lots of chinese restaurants named things like "super happy family hong kong chinese buffet" or weird things like that.
