I asked the following question on The official WP40 running on controller thread but got no answers, hopefully I get some replies here.

I'm old school and don't have a controller let alone an Apex and would like to get a few WP's to anti -sync on my 180g. I noticed that the stock controller on Wp40 remembers last setting when disconnected can I run my old but still works (stopped using since Koralias make loud noise when restarted) Natural Wave Multi-Cycle Pump Timer from Aquarium Systems (to alternate Wp40 flow from opposite sides of aquarium)?
 
Yes. I do that 4 times a day with digital timers to create an artificial set of tides. One side for 6 hours, both for 2 hours, the other side for 6 hours, both for 2 hours, over and over.

But I wanted to setup 2 pumps to reverse flow in tank, say every 20 seconds( Natural Wave Multi-Cycle Pump Timer from Aquarium Systems has alternating A & B channels from 20 seconds to 3 minutes and C channel of double the time of first two so it comes on some of the time with A and other times with B) by plugging power supply into wave maker and my main concern is wear on pump from possibly the bypassing of stock controller soft start if so equipped from so much cycling. Have noticed that the wave maker does shorten the life of all the other pumps I have connected to it (but I'm hoping WP40 is immune since on W1 it cycles much more than that- although with my kill a watt meter I notice a fast ramp up it watts from possibly a soft start which may not happen with added wave maker).

Also Ron does your controller remember last settings with a 6 hour shut off?

Thinking of ordering a wp40 but my only real concern is how big this thing is for my 4x2x2 its like the size of a softball... I like the amount of flow and the wider flow pattern but the wp25 seems smaller and less of an eye sore. Anyone regret this on they're 4' tank?

There are plenty of pictures in this or other threads showing the size of the pump in actual measurements or compared to a Coke can.

As far as a WP-40 in a 4'x2'x2' tank it may be a little strong.
I have one in a 55 gallon which is 48"x12"x21" and I have to run it at 50% or less.
 
I wasn't asking for pics. I've seen plenty of pics and even in a 120 it looks massive and seems like an eye sore. I like the headroom it has for power and wide flow but the size of a wp25 seems nicer...
 
It is a large pump. I have both the 40 and the 25 and I like the 25 better because it is smaller, but the 40 puts out a better flow.

I would say it's more like a baseball then a softball.
 
I've used mine for about 8 months no problems at all. Works great on my 75 on else I love it glad I didn't spend and extra few hundred on the vortech
 
OK I skipped to the end because Christmas is very close and the wife is getting mad asking me over and over what I want..

So are this pumps reliable like the koralia power heads? Would you guys say their better?

Oh yah its a 120 full SPS with VERY little LR. Would you guys rum maybe 2 WP 40's. Or 2 WP 20's ?

I never had a koralia, but my personal experience with these are they are very reliable. I have a WP-40 (Since April) and WP-25 (Since June).

I would definitely order another if I needed it. I'm actually waiting on a Jebao DC-6000 return pump.

I think 2 40's might be a bit much unless your run them at a lower speed.

I have a wp60 in my 90g and it is not that noticeable... the secret to me is to mount it on the back wall, not the side wall... back wall, right near the corner, turn the pump so it faces middle of the opposite end. My back glass is black, so the pump base blends in very well with the back wall.

And the 60 is pretty much the same size 'ball' as the 40, just the nozzle is bigger... so you should be fine with the 40.
 
cool i may give it a one a try. I was getting out of the reefing and going fish and sold most all my extra pumps. But i miss my SPS and yah you know the rest LOL. I did have Vortech MP 40's and 10s but sold them. I loved them but want to cut cost a little. I was going to go Tunze but ran across this and figured i better do some reading.
 
I had my WP40 slow down again last night. I took off the front cage and replaced it and it went back to normal. I had it in a vinegar bath last week and used it to mix up some salt the day before to test it.

Is it worth trying to replace the bushing or impeller? The flow from it is amazing compared to my MP40 on the other side.

Is it just me or do you all find it a big PIA to order this pumps from Fishstreet? Thank im just going to get 2 25's for know and then prob get 2 more once i need them from ebay just for that fact i know it someplace in the us when i buy it :)
 
How so?

The group buys are a pain, but worth it IMO.

Fish-Street, on the other hand, is just like ordering from anywhere else, except they're in China.
