Apex Firmware Update - 4.01 Beta

Found a bug in the new release.

If you have long outlet names, the status xml page will fail at each line where a long one exists. This did not happen in the prior version. My answer was to simply shorten my outlet names by one or two characters.

Just thought I would post this here in case someone's code that relies on this xml was failing and they could not figure out why.

My graphs in the iPhone app aquanotes are working after this update!

If you are having trouble with the web page update on the modules.asp file and are will to help debug the problem, please contact support@neptunesys.com. We have have not been able to replicate the problem here, so it must be something related to the PC and/or network settings.

Can't upgrade firmware. I get this error:

Placing Apex in read to receive mode
Trying to connect, attempt x
Waiting for input from Apex, timed out

Apex IP is in 10.0.1.x format. Both wired and wireless doesn't work.

Looks like the firmware updater expects a 192.168.0.x format?

I was able to update the firmware and web page on first try. I show that the latest firmware is in use. When I go to graphs, there is a "seven day" drop down selection. However, when I click on it and then "update", nothing happens. The display remains single day . The same thing happens in the data log - just a single day's data is displayed... is there another trick to access multiple days?

You have to select a date seven days back and then hit update for the graphs to show the data.

Same here. Graphs are ok for single day and week.

The outlet control is still so so. I can control some outlets but not others.
On my setup I cannot control outlet 4 and 8 on the EB8.

Looking forward for the next aquanotes upgrade

Just did the update without a hitch. However, the graphs in Aquanotes don't display anything for me. Maybe it is because I have less than a day's data?

I've given up on Aquanotes. Some functions worked under the previous firmware - Under the latest upgrade, all I can access is feed cycle... no other information is displayed, including graphs...

Go figure.

That fixed it - thanks for clarification.

No problem...

As far as Aquanotes, I figured the updated version would have been posted to the App store by now. I can access everything with this update, but the graphs don't display the correct data. I haven't tried a feed cycle from it yet though.

I just released a new beta version of the firmware which clears up the last couple of issues with version 4.01. Fixed issues include:

- Intermittant web page update failure.
- 12 character outlet name bug in xml log files.
- support for iphone application enhancement.

You can download it from:

Thanks for the update. The latest iPhone app update generates the daily, weekly, and monthly graphs now perfectly. I like the new crosshair feature showing you the exact X&Y values as you run your finger on the graph.

The only think that doesn't work for some reason is AMPS -- no graph at all.

By the way, here's a problem that I encounter. One time, power went out and of course my wireless adapter (where the Apex is connected) lost power as well. When it came back up, I cannot connect to the Apex anymore. I can see it running and updating via the display module, but for some reason, it didn't connect back to the network. I can connect to the wireless adapter, but not to the Apex, until I did a restart under 'Net Setup.'

I think this is a big bug. Imagine when you are out and the power goes out. You won't be able to connect to your Apex nor get notified.

Are you sure it's the Apex? What should happen with wireless adapters is that the external device detects traffic and forwards that to the connected network. In the case of the Apex the 1st thing that should happen (assuming you are running default configuration) is that it will request an address from the router and then that is the address it answer to thereafter. If you are using static IP then it should be detected and the static address used.

Since I've lost power many times to the wireless adapter and never seen what you describe I am suspicous that it might be something else.

When you go into net setup, is the Apex IP address what you were expecting? It could be getting reassigned via DHCP. Could you telnet to the Apex or was that not working either? You might want to consider a small UPS to run the Apex controller (not the EB8), your PC and the wireless router so you can always get email notifications.

DHCP is off on the apex and is set with a static local IP. I would think it has something to do with how often the apex rebroadcasts itself as it is still alive. Remember, I can access the wireless adapter after a power loss so I know it has connected sucessfully to the network. I can't access the apex though, even with local IP, unless I manually restart it, which somehow re-registers itslef back to the network.

Yes, I think I should plug the wireless adapter to the UPS.
