Congratulations, Joshua!
I started keeping reefs a little over 7 years ago now. I had fresh water tanks growing up like everyone else but always ended up browsing the salt isles. I've kept mostly mixed reefs of various sizes over that time and one non-photosynthetic reef. That's a lot of work lol. I really enjoy watching corals grow over time and love the interactions of the fish, especially when kept in pairs or harems. I had a spawning harem of Yellow Coris for a while that was fantastic to watch in the evenings. And I really love the minutia of reefs. Getting right up the glass and watching the development of all the tiny things that grow and move in the tank really pulls me in. I'm not one to constantly be adding new things, I tend to put a few things in then just watch to see what happens over the next year.
We started our family a little over 3 years ago and because of that and a new home I was without a tank for a while. About a year and a half ago I started a little rimless bowfront (14g) in my twin daughters room and stocked it lightly with some xenia, leather, photosynthetic gorgonians (total ease of operation tank) and a pair of clowns that the girls named Nemo and Mommy. It's been a real joy to see them fall in love with corals and fish in the same way I have. My youngest has become obsessed with his older sisters tank and we are in the first stages of a tank in his room. It's hard to say if he's more excited or I am.
I have to credit RC and my local reef club LIRA with all I have been able to learn and do over the years. Every day there is more to learn and new people to share ideas with. Thanks to everyone out there who make this such a great place to waste a work day
