aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

You shouldn't be getting any microbubbles......did you adjust the height of the skimmer to 9" for a starting point?

Also ,check your flow adjustment pipe & make sure the slot on the inner pipe is completely exposed to start out. Mine wasn't screwed into the upper part of the pipe and just shoved together.

If it's screwed into the upper part and the slot is fully exposed your level will be very low to start and then you can just turn the knob to shut down some flow and raise the level in the skimmer body.

Try some silicone grease on the O ring. That has always worked well for me on sealing O-rings on skimmers.

This might sound dumb, but I didn't see an o-ring that came with my skimmer. What size is it? I might have to buy one since water also gets into my silencer all the time.

Hey guys I just got the cone co1 HOB skimmer and I have the thing all the way open and its still overflowing like crazy. I know skimmers have to break in but in my experience any skimmer I've used at all the way open the bubbles usually are at the base of the bottom of collection cup, or thereabouts. Not violently overflowing. And if I close it all the way it overflows even faster.
Any ideas?

Take the clear sleeve of the silencer to the hardware store and match up an oring. They dont come with them.

Not normal if you're running it at suitable level. What level is the skimmer running in? No new filter socks, additives or coral adhesives-right?

Just a heads up, BigAlsPets has the JNS CO-1 on sale for $200 and you could also apply a 10% off coupon (supersaver10) making the skimmer $180 w/ free shipping. Ordered over the weekend and they just shipped mine out today. Happy Holidays!

That's where mine came from. This little skimmer is great. I wish they run special on the 3 and I would sell my pov 3 reef octo. It does add a little hum to my stand. Anybody get rid of the hum.

mine never hums but if you are uncomfortable with the sound, you can get a food grade silicone pot pad and set the skimmer on top.

amazon sells them along with many retailers. Less than 10 bucks!

Just an update

I've had my CO1 since june of 2013 and it's still performing just as well if not better than the first few months after break-in.

I haven't had a single issue with it and the confidence it gives me while I'm away from home is priceless.

I figured I would post a pic of my usual bi-weekly nog from a pretty damn good skimmer.

Nice and tasty looking!

Unlike 95% of the skimmers I've owned, mine just worked right out of the box.

Clean it, set it, then forget it until the next WC.

happy reefing and Happy Holidays

Mine is still in the box Waiting for the house remodel so I can sit up my sons 40 breeder SPS tank Thanks again for all who took a chance on this great skimmer, it is clear this a great skimmer for a small tank.

Like this one so much I just bought cone 3 for my 200. Big als had them on special also, and I used 10% code for even more savings. Hard to beat the price. $330
