ATI Powermodule Hybrid Club

I'm in the uk and had a problem with the hybrid led staying on. This was after 1 year.
Tristan in Germany was absolutely superb in helping me get back up and running. Really good service

So I am going to be buying the 60 inch fixture and joining this club at the end of Jan. My question is I have a standard 150 tank and am debating between getting the 8 or 4 bulb version. I seem to remember seeing the 8 bulb would be wider then my tank??? does this sound right? This will be a SPS dominate mixed reef. Do you guys think I should go with the 8 or 4 bulb

I would go with 4 bulbs. I have a 24" front to back tank and have the 4 bulbs. Sps growth is great. However I do have the LED's running at 80% and plan to bump it up to 100% peak. Will the 8-bulb be better for me, it definitely will. But it will be marginal. For your 18" depth tank 4-bulb should be enough.

And I have SPS all over the tank.

Beautiful tank btw
I think that is what I will do I plan to have a little LPS lower (GF will kill me if I dont have "flowy things" in the tank haha.

What is your bulb setup if your dont mind?

I still poke my head in here from time to time, glad to see people still using the fixture.
Horseplay, your tank looks super blue to me, not sure if it's your settings or camera. I generally don't take photos because the only camera I have is my phone. I run my tank quite a bit whiter which would give me more par at lower levels.
I have a 4 bulb and was killing my sps at top of the tank. Rented a par meter and adjusted mine to roughly 55pct. That gave me 200par at bottom, 350ish center and 600 3/4 in tank in 24in depth.
As for issues with the fixture I've seen throughout the thread, I have had none.
My vortech a are louder than the fans. Only thing I was upset with was recieving an older model led cluster months after the newer ones were released.

Quick question,

Returned home from an overnight away, and found that my back 2 T5s were barely flickering every 3 seconds or so. It's a 1st generation T5/LED Powermodule 48in 4 bulb, and I've never had any issue with the fixture before. From my APEX alarm, it appears I had a power flicker sometime while I was gone. The front T5s work fine as well as the LEDs. In addition, the fans are moving properly and when I switched the bulbs out the same issue were happening.

Anyone have a similar experience?

thought I'd post a update on my own tank. I had played with combo of ati bulbs for the past year, running combos of 2 c+ 2 b+ 1 actinic and 1 purple. every combo I could with those bulbs on my 4 bulb fixure. I just switched to 2 korallen zucht coral light "new generation" 1 Fiji purple, and 1 superblue. The color is simply awesome. I changed the led a bit for more blue and less white, but I have found my combo. I have always said I think this fixture is a t5 fixture with led combo. The tank looks clear white and corals still have the same color. With all the ati bulbs, I had a washed out blue appearance. Don't know if anyone else would be interested, or even would have the same preferences that I do, but thought I'd share.

I have lamp randomly turning off then back on. Troubleshot with ATI tech support and they suggest disconnecting lamp from Apex and plugging straight into wall or into an alternate power strip. I am really not agreeable to doing this. Wonder if anyone else has the same problem with the lame and Apex.

So I'm about 4 months into using the ATI LED Powermodule and I feel I have seen some interesting results both positive and negative. Overall I feel the colors in my tank are outstanding, but I was struggling with getting reds and pinks to really pop, plus my stylophora that was directly under an LED cluster was "burning" on the top, and my strawberry shortcake was brown in one small area where it lay under an LED cluster, and I was having trouble with diatoms on my sand, and I felt my OT (Oregon Tort) was ever so slightly paler than I like. I therefore turned the LEDs off except for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. I had been running them 14 hours but only at 35% peak power. I didn't think they would have much effect at such low power.

It has now been a month without fulltime LED and I have noted several changes all for the better.

1) The brown area on the strawberry shortcake is almost all gone and the colony is regaining full color.
2) My purple humilis which was pale purple is turning radiant and deep purple.
3) My OT is regaining a deeper blue.
4) The pink birdsnest is turning to a glowing pink and a red coral that I have been growing from a tiny frag is suddenly changing from just dull brick red to a bright glowing red.
5) The top of the stylophora is healing.
6) A deep water suharsoi that was green is turning glowing white with radiant yellow tips.
7) A coral that was green with blue tips lost the blue tip but is now regaining the blue tips.
8) The diatoms on my sand are gone.
9) My purple efflo was dull purple and brown in the center and is now returning to all purple throughout.

Bottom line: 14 hours of LED light at 35% peak power was not good for some of my coral coloration. If I had to guess I would say that PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is not as harmless as folks think. Although the LED looks dim to our eye the coral is feeling a firehose of photons that are turned on and off and this negatively impacts some zoox.

Not scientific at all just the observations of a long time aquarist, and before everyone gets all in a huff let me just add, I'm not putting anyone elses stuff down, I'm just making my observations and thoughts known to the forum AND I would note that Lunar (K. Tryc), arguably the greatest colorful coral grower of our day, had the exact same observation regarding the exact same fixture and even went so far as to remove the fixture and go back to a pure T5 setup. In other words please don't look at my comments as a put down. They are just one aquarists unscientific observation, so use that as any other piece of internet trivia with a proverbial "grain of salt".

Will try to get some photos later :D

Are you using any LED at all for sunrise/sunset?

Yes, I still have them on for the first and last hour because that is my prime viewing time and I really enjoy the look, but more than ever I am convinced that LEDs are simply not the same as MH or T5. They work well for many, many aquarists, but if you want the ultimate in form and color I genuinely believe LEDs are not helpful and may even be harmful, at least that has been my experience so far.

Interesting info and you may be right. Going to give it a try. Just wondering if I will take LEDs offline during T5 hours do I need to gradually go down so as not to shock the corals? Or do I take them offline right away when T5s turn on.

Years ago I ran 1000 watt MH and placed new wild coral directly under them with no trouble. I am not a believer in the "shock" theory. Corals are healthy and need light to survive or they are dying and nothing you can do will save them. Turn the LEDs off and see what changes you notice, if any. I really really would like to hear other's experiences. I truly only have a sample of two, being myself and Krzsytof, that have the experiences that I have so any other validation or refutation would be awesome!

Hi Joe,

I am planning to have a new custom tank made. Exact dimensions will be determined by whatever lighting fixture I end up going for (max light coverage / minimal light spill)

Top contenders at this point are the Giesemann Spectra and the ATI PM Hybrid.
As you have experience with both, could you please share your personal comparison between the two? Coral colors, growth, overall health etc...?

Controller: Clock Issue

Controller: Clock Issue

Are any other owners having issues with the clock on their controller?

The time is acting weird lately. It will advance VERY QUICKLY. For example, I'll set the time to 10pm. When I wake up, all the tank lights are on because the time has advance to 4pm, when it is only 8am.

My LEDs stopped working due to a controller issue, for approx 5 weeks or so they were not on at all.
I didn't notice any difference that I could see, I was also running the led very hard. About 85%. I was expecting things to drastically change but nothing.

Led are back on now and everything still looks good.

Although my tank is 27" deep and the main corals are approx 16" or so from the surface.

slowly but surely

slowly but surely

a little tuning yet and I am satisfied :)

3x KZ Superblue, 2x KZ New Generation, 1x KZ Fiji Puple, 1x Giesemann Super Actinic (Max: 100%)
Led: Red: 5, RB: 255, B: 95, W: 120 (Max: 30%)

10 cm above the water surface ;)

I've helped at least 3 people with their hybrids and all have experienced better color and growth using the LEDs for short term supplements or completely off except for dusk/dawn.

The issue has been duration.

This same problem occurs with Reefbrites being on too long..........I'm talking mainly Sps dominant tanks.

Not quit the same, but I had a Coralvue T5/LED setup on my frag tank and once I got up to four hours of the LEDs at midday I had problems. Part of the issue is having them in the center of the fixture.
