Awais' 120g Build

biopellet TLF 150 and maxijet

biopellet TLF 150 and maxijet

I had picked up a TLF 150 and a maxijet 1200, used one.
In 5 days time, i see the pellets hardly moving....
they were more vigorous in a media back by the drain line!!!

Im done with that crap tlf 150 and maxijet 1200....

Gonna make a DIY biopellet reactor size enough for 200g with a new mag 3 pump

We got 3 more fishes today

While im working, wife acclimaztized and they went into DT right now.
Got it from sea scapt studios. they quarantine them already in the display sale tanks with cupper... cool.

Wife and kids loved them

DIY Biopellet plan

DIY Biopellet plan

Heres what I came up with.
Not paying $330+ for this, will save it for livestock

I had read that the tlf 150 and mj1200 worked great for bio pellets. I'm looking forward to your DIY reactor though if it works I might make one for myself :)

I have a TLF 550 with Biopellets running off my Blueline return pump and I have that baby almost wide open to get the tumbling needed. Why not just run the reactor off your 200PS?

Since the 550 is much larger than the 150 your going to need much more flow to get the required tumbling needed. That is a good suggestion for him though.

:idea:Thats not a bad idea at all!! i actually have an extra port on the pump return side, if you see my intial plumbing, just below the refuge line.....
it would take up good flow out of the 200PS??

When you say that you have that baby almost wide open to get the tumbling needed....assuming your drain from the reactor ends up near the skimmer....how does it effect your return flow to the DT?

And I just checked, blueline and panworld, seems like exact same pumps by the same ex Iwaki engineer...

RT Pump Panworld 120

RT Pump Panworld 120

I was routinely checking my RT pump in the basement inside the sump stand ( open back)
It was unsually hot and I had never seen it that way before, so I thought something must be wrong.

I stopped, isolated, removed and opened it. i did not find anything stuck there, no gravel, no nothing. I just cleaned it with water and cleaned some little slime and put it back in.

But this time I just replaced the 2 1" elbows that were in the pump-out with a wider 1.5" spaflex. Eliminating the 2 elbows, FWIW.
man that spa flex is not flexibale at all!!! I was afraid it would open at the couplers!!!

And I recheck the pump, it stays hot now.
WOndering if this is usual for this Panworld 200PS pump in spring/summer.....

Smoothdog, i know you have this pump, so you think this is normal for this pump or something is going on? with the bearing??
Its just been working around 3 months and I know it has a good reputation.
Please help.

See the pics..

My pump is warm but not hot to the touch. I have 1.5" pipe from the sump until the last couple inches to the pump for the intake so intake restriction is minimal. Is the fan on your pump working good? The fan on mine is much louder than the pump itself on mine and blows a ton of air.

Well, lately mine is hot I would say, it used to be warm in winter. Not anymore.

I too have 1.5 inchs for the intake and gravity fed.
Fan is working good and blows alot.
I wonder what is going on.....

So I finally manage to finish the canopy and get the LEDs on and place it on the DT, finally I see a half decent dt in the living room!!!

Day shot:

Night Shot

Imback to work, and now I see there is some shadowing in the middle of the tank, maybe from the center brace, the LEDs r 7.25" off the water, I might have to lower it a little...

DIY BioPellet reactor:
See pic, I bought a new MJ1200 and am still not happy with it.

I am buying a tlf 550, will modify as above to make it recirc and attach a mag 3.

what is this??

what is this??

I find these small 1/4 to almost 3/4 inch white stuff hanging from the original live rock i used for seeding the tank. They went through the whole cycle ( didnt die off) and now beginning to grow!!
See pic. What is it? Some kinda sponges? is it harmful?

Awais I think you need a smaller diameter tube than the 550. Try to make a recirc mod with your TLF 150 and a mag 3 if you want more flow. Ive heard it being hard to get enough flow in a 550 with it being such a big diameter to get desired flow.

The canopy looks amazing. Tank it looking great as well.

I couldnt tell you what the white things are on those rocks, sorry!

Thanks Dave,
Or as Zero26 pointed out, I might run the reactor directly by a T from the return pump. I already ordered the 550, and sold the 150 LOL.

Those white things are pineapple sponges, just found out. Its part of the cycling after the diatoms, potentialy in a high silica enviornment. They are harmless filter feeders.... in time they will go away....
