Bean's 300 Gallon AGE Build

That's a lot of RFA!

Im hoping with time I can get them to breed. I don't think you can tell which are male and which are female until they spawn. It's really interesting that the babies produced aren't clones of the parents. I've been trying to feed them once or twice a week. So far they seem happy.

The reactor took a little more than half a bag of Reborn. I'm about ready to restart the co2. Apparently I also need to calibrate the Kamoer pump. Thanks Mike lol

Do you know if it dissolve at the same rate?

Jimmy,

In my experience, it dissolves at the same rate.

I do it 10% to 90% ReMag to ReBorn. Over the last year and a half I have refilled 3 times. Each Time I have refilled, there is about 2" of media left over that I dump out..

Now, I haven't separated the media to see if it is at a 10% ratio, but it does look real close...

I might add, that, I put the media in by layers... 1000mL reborn, then 100mL remag over and over till my chamber is filled.

It seems to have worked very well for me.

Cody,

Your tank looks *****in.... I have been lurking but not posting too much on your thread. I am jealous!!!! Wish I had gone bigger than 180.... But, I was pushing my luck with the real Christygirl!!!!

Well done on your tank...

By the Way, I recently added the Kamoer FX-STP. I love it... Quick to calibrate... I got so tired of fooling with the needle valve.

I am wondering how long the pump head lasts... I think I want to buy backup parts.... J.I.C.

Also, I can hear the pump at night down the hallway, it is not obnoxious, but, I can hear it none the less.....

Once again, Great looking tank!

Mike replaced his tubing on it after 8 months. It was pretty grimy. Not too sure about the pump head though.

Thanks Randy! I feel you. I don't think my wife realized how large the tank would be until all of the SCMAS guys brought it in. My house is tiny also... she already has plans to take over that room even though its my fish room LOL. I need to skin the stand and side peripherals in wood. I haven't quite decided the look I want yet. I've got basic tools, and somewhat of a good eye so I'm confident I can make something at least decent. Not you quite as nice as yours or Ben Ndrwater's skills though you guys do some great wood work. I'm taking my sweet time obviously. Starting with totally dry uncured rock really set me back but time is limited for me these days with my two year old so its actually working out for me. Not much coral, but I'm getting the equipment I need errr or want slowly with my limited budget. I do need another Tunze 6155 and also looking to get a Tunze MAR (Macro Algae Reactor) 3182 since I turned my in sump refugium into a Rock Flower Nem and Mushroom tank. The pump will be my next purchase. The larger MAR 3182 should be out later this year.

Very nice build and set up. Learned a few cool things reading through your thread.

Thank you very much, I'm glad that you found some useful info. If you have any questions on anything in particular just let me know. I'm always glad to help other reefers if I'm able. So many have helped me over the years between SCMAS and the forums so I feel the sharing our tanks and builds really goes a long way to helping others. I know my build thread is terribly long winded with no coral LMAO but I've taken my time and have enjoyed the process up to this point.

Right on Randy,

thank you for the clarification. I'm about to start up my CaRx and trying to refresh and learn as much as possible. I DIY'd a peristaltic pump similar to the kamoer it cost a lot less to make one and it has steel rollers with bearings so the only thing I need to replace is the occasional tube. which I made it with the kamoer replacement tube, so that it would be easy to source.

Wives, what you going to do with them?

Even though my new build is about 2X the gallons of the one it replaced, I designed it to make a much less intrusive footprint on the foyer... to make her happy :D

BTW, you have a very nice house... and your wife is way out of your league..... How did you pull that off?

I tied some fishing line over a couple of bounces to force them to split. It's been about 2 weeks and so far so good. The Sunkist is almost there... the OG needs more time.

are you planning on putting the RFAs in the DT or just leave them in the fuge?

No Im going to leave them in the converted fuge. I layered the bottom with reborn and matrix. I'm hoping they'll breed at some point and I can collect them from the bottom. I'd like to get more at some point.

Im going to try the Tunze Macro Algae Reactor 3182 when it's released later this year instead.

I may try that out. Is it just one line over the mushroom or multiply? Also Is it tied loosely or tight?
