"Best of" FO's (since we don't get TOTM's)

Danorth,

Nice fish aside, they are some great pics! Corals are one thing, they stay still, but the fish - especialyl the trigger teeth!!! Cool.

Matt

im thinking of starting a FOWLR at my office that is about 150G and will be putting a large school of anthias (about 8-10), a small tang, and other peaceful fish that i have yet to decide on

danorth that coris wrasse is a monster, you said that trigger is about 8" long that coris has to be about 10-12"

I really dont have a FO tank but i have a mostly fish with some coral tank lol so here are some pics just ignore the coral as im thinking about pulling out most of it lol, so far what i have in it is a copperband butterfly, a midas blenny, a baby vlamingii tang, and my pride a joys...a beautiful bluethroat pair

i bought them from tropical aquarium in brunswick, they were special ordered in for me, the male didnt look that good when i bought him, that is alot of hard earned time, money, and patience with alot of food and vitamins, i dont care what anyone else tells me in order to get the best health, color, and energy out of a fish you have to feed an extremely varied diet, so far in my freezer i have my own custom reef mixture (DT's oyster eggs, cyclopeeze frozen, halibut filet, squid rings, crab claws, shrimp, mysis, bloodworms, brine, krill, silversides, and algae sheets), brine, mysis, bloodworms, silversides, krill, cyclopeeze, marine cuisine, emerald entree, and my secret for feeding finiky fish and coral...prawn roe, to add to that collection i have a container of 1mm spectrum pellets, 3mm spectrum pellets, all three kinds of julian springs algae sheets, spectrum flakes, cyclopeeze flakes, and no matter what i feed the fish i always soak everything in at least one cap of garlic and 1ml or selcon

depending on what im feeling the fish need that day is what i feed along with a pinch of small spectrum pellets

so for anyone that wants to keep the most vibrant colors of their fish i do recommend an extremely varied diet well soaked in vitamins, i am also going to try and add one more thing to the mix, im going to try the Mazuri aquatic gel diet with krill meal, it is loaded with vitamins and minerals along with a color enhancer so once i get it i will post a thread about it and let everyone know how i like it along with the addition of what i feed normally

cloudjockey, i know that brunswick is quite a drive for you but hector at tropical aquarium has some awesome fish for good prices, he guarentee's that any fish he has in stock is eating very well and actually doses garlic to his whole system its a small shop and if you PM me i can give you an address and number for his place

Wow. Many awesome FO setups!

clekchau, I really like the Vlamangi Tang you have. I had one for 5 years. I had to take my back as it out grew my 200 gallon display tank. Mine was about 14". Is yours a Male? I see the tailfin streamers and assume that is a male? Mine didnt have those streamers. I think was probably a female... Nice Tank!

Big male bluejaws are just pretty. The right lights and a healthy fish make for a stunning display IMO. Very nice fish mattyice. And for the coris, it must be more than 12", but I hopefully will never know, because if I do it's because it's dead. I could never hold a ruler next to the glass with this skittish fish.

Pictures of tangs are hard to get I think, they move too much!

i do love my male bluethroat, but really i can tell my vlamingii is going to look awesome, im getting my custom tank pretty much for him, and i do believe its a him as i can tell that he has quite a bit of blue in his tail now actually alot more then what is in the picture above

i get the prawn roe from a LFS, the stuff is awesome, the fish love it and its really high in fats and proteins

danorth did you get your coris as a juvie or as a show size fish? and you are right about tangs, they do move around alot

that is one thing i look forward to in my next tank as i will see all of my fish grow to their potential and actually look natural, and will hopefully be able to increase the number of fish, i think it would look just sweet the have a huge school of like 16+ bartlets, dispar, or ignitus anthias

I got the coris at near I would guess 12" about 2 years ago. I don't think it has grown much in length since then, but has gotten a bit taller and thicker and the blue spots have gotten more towards the head and more of them. That is fine though, I wouldn't want it to grow another 3 inches, it would be like a big red eel!

yeah at 12" that is already a fish that already sticks out enough lol, i guess it does get bigger then you could give it to a local zoo/aquarium, that would be quite a show piece and i bet its not something they have come across

and im still trying to decided on a tank size but its either going to be 96x48x36 or 120x48x36, with me looking for a house soon i can at least find a house to put around the tank lol, its either that or building and at that point i can at least have the tank on my main floor and have it be more of a showpiece then it would be if it was stuffed into a basement, in the basement would most likely be an in-wall shark like pond with just the front viewable and building a bar in front of it

i wouldn't go with over 30" high, mine is 96x48x30 and it already is a pain to aquascape and clean.

120x48x30 sounds great :D

Interesting tank now we are missing a shark tank XD. And thats one huge fish, how big is it and what is it?

hmm maybe i will go with 30" high then, im wanted to go with only 24" high but then the vlamingii full grown would never be able to go up or down and would have to dive and rise to the surface like a submarine
