I read somewhere that you might have to wait about 3 years or more til they pair up and breed.

How old do you think they are if the female is right around 1.5" and the male is just at 1"? I just got a pair from ORA through Divers Den just seeing how long I will have to wait.

3 to 5 years,I got mine when they were 5 months old and they are now 4 years old and have spawning for about 6 months.

They can 'pair up' quite young, but I suspect, as others say, a few years until egglaying. I currently have an old (7+ year old female) with a juvenile almost 1 year old male. The male is showing strong breeding instinct as he does the dance...
My former female died, and amazingly the male and the juvenile paired up extremely quickly. The male, being larger, has become a female.
In my case, I am not very sure how long until the male will be capable. I suspect it won't take as long as an egglaying female.

Pairing Timing = Instantly to Never. My Darwin Occy should like crazy as soon as the larger Orange Occy calmed down from being just added. They are sleeping together happily.

I have a pair of perc's. The male is wild, so I have no idea how old he is. The female was purchased as a small, still developing, maybe an inch long, ORA picasso bloodline. I had her for about a year before they spawned. I can't imagine her being more than about two, or two and a half, at the time she spawned. They have been spawning for about the past year, and she is still growing. She still has a long way to go before she's, what I would call, full grown.

Did most of your Ocellaris take 3-5 yrs to begin spawning? What was your time before your Onyx Percula started?

Thanks, I'm flattened, I'm mean flattered. Soooo much for me to learn. Just keeping up with aquaculture is a full time job these days. This is truly a great time to be in the hobby. Percs especially tank raised will lay around the two year mark. WIld caught.... What's that? Lol.no really WC are picky. Ocellaris are "able" to spawn in a few years but they wont. They are more picky. 3-5 years.is a safe bet. ( light, temp,water, food,nitrates, stability, tank mates, est.) BeQ... if you just bought them at 1-2 inches. Most likey they are 6 or 8 months old. Feed em like crazy. I have fish that will eat 100, 1 ml pellets at a time. Spectrum Threa A. They can eat more than you think. Also feed fresh sea food(after soaking in fresh water) kills all the bad guys. Rods food is the shizzy. Ring the bell. Or just grind your own. ( if you can Handel the smell). Later
