i have the 5000 hooked up to the octo extreme 250. my 250 has the conical transition like the super reef bodies. i am getting about 62 scfh right away, havent checked it since. i think the real limiting factor for these pumps is the size of pipe they are hooked up to. i am thinking about modding my skimmer with some bigger pipe and use the union it is supposed to use. the OD of the bigger union was like 1 11/16" so with 1/4" walls thats like 1 3/8" ID, where as the stock tube is closer to 3/4" ID. just a thought. the only issue is finding the pipe online at a good price. i found some a usplastics.com but i will have to machine it down to fit the union, and it is $6/ft and i need to buy 6 ft to get it here.

that was the plan, but the closest size for pvc 1.5, an the od is bigger then the union. the acrylic was only 10 bucks shipped to my door, so i figured i might as well make it look good ;). my concern is the bubble plate area might not be "tall" enough to drill. we will see. what hole do you think i should drill out, there is one that come in at a 90 degree and one that is coming in at an angle. the angled hole would be the hardest do to, but i didn't know if the swirling action inside the body would be beneficial. i was planning on using the hole that goes straight in.

hammerhead do u have any pics of it in your sump( how the outlet is setup)... where is the water level in the skimmer.... how much air does the pump pull disconnected from the skimmer?

Its optimal spot is 8.5 to 9 inches, but I dont have an auto top off so it varies a little from day to day. My outlet is exiting to the side. I dont have the extesion on the exit or the L pipe. I have not put a meter on it without it hooked to the skimmer, but I bet it would pull a 100. If you need a photo I can take one for you tomorrow. What kind of skimmer are you running?

It would be nice if they would come up with one size bigger bubble blaster, i know yo can mod a laguna 2400-2900 and get about 140-150 scfh. I've gotten about 120 out of a dart gold and over 200 from a laguna 4200.

From what I understand there are a couple of larger sizes in the works with one being the the Bubble Blaster HY10000 with an estimated airpull of 145scfh. This pump will be found on the large SRO XP-8000 and XP-10000 (this will have two 10000 pumps).

That pump sounds perfect for my OCTOX 200 :blown:
I wonder what the 3000 and the 10000 would do? :fun2: :lolspin:

Well, you got me wondering. So when I cleaned the cup tonight I slipped the pump off the skimmer. Had to break out the big meter though.

We opened the stock red dragon from the original Alpha cone 250 as well as the BB HY 500 and guess what?, they both come with needle wheel. I thought they would be using mesh wheel.

So the first question is: why do they come with needle wheel instead of mesh wheel?, mesh wheel would make far better skimmate wouldn´t it?.

The LFG said that we could add mesh to the needle wheel, he said its a simple DIY he can do in minutes and he thinks it would work best.

So my question is:

Would I have any problems using the mesh wheel?, I don´t want it stuck all the time or something. Why don´t they come with mesh wheel?

You shouldnt need a mesh wheel with those pumps. Both should deliver all the air you need.

if you mesh it, every 5-6 month or even less you would have to re-mesh it. many peolpe like to set it and for get it.

but yes, the mesh will give you more air pull. you just mesh rite over the pinwheel.
