Bubble King Skimmer Club

Thanks :S

I guess the problem is maintaining the water level in the sump tank so it hits the 22cm requirement for the skimmer... gosh.. is this a design flaaw?

Every insump skimmer requires a consistant water level to skim consistantly.

If you want to post some photos of your install maybe we can help out some. Do you have a chamber in your sump that maintains a constant water level which you could place the skimmer?

I just joined the club!!!

jeremy, im having issues finding information about gen 2 vs gen 3. i am interested in a mini 160.

There never really was a Gen 2 Mini 160, it went from Gen 1 to Gen 3 on the Mini 160 skimmer. There was a very small difference on the Mini 160 when the Gen 2 180's and 200's were released, but it would be more confusing to explain it, and it does not have any performance affect what so ever. The Gen 2 Mini 160 just has the anti-calcium bypass pump on it is all.

We call them by generational numbers here in the US, where Royal-Exclusiv calls them by the year. For example, the 180 and 200 have the following models...

VS '07 - Gen 1
VS '09 - Gen 2
VS '12 - Gen 3

I hope this makes sense.

Jeremy:

I replaced the two o-rings (thanks for getting them for me) in the BK-200 SM but the motor bock o-ring is so thick that the pump head o-ring does not quite touch the pump body when I tighten the four screws. I'm afraid to crank them down much more. I've taken it apart twice to be sure I seated the pump head o-ring properly but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Can you take a quick photo for me so that I can make sure I know what we're talking about? I want to see how you have the impeller cover plate o-ring installed.

I'm in the BK Club!
I just set up my new Double Cone 180/Mini RD3 Speedy! It is pulling out some good skimmate. I have mine in 20.5cm of water, set RD3 at 25w, & dialed it in. I was wondering if anyone else has the same skimmer, & what theirs is set at? Just trying to get the best out of this great skimmer! Thanks.

Here are a couple of pictures, in the first the o-ring is seated as far as it will go, in the second it is out to show the size. Too thick?

I am planning to get a Bubble King for my next build, but I am not sure which one to get.

I have Marineland 150DD + 75gal Sump + 40gal frag tank in one system. I may add in a smaller 20gal sea horse tank into the same system. Which will gives me max of 285gal of water volume without rocks and water fill the top.

I am considering SM250 or Double cone 200. Which one of these will work better?

Also, skimmer chamber will be 24" X 24" therefore foot print will not be an issue.

Try some dielectric compound (silicone grease) or vaseline to lube the o-ring and seat it down in the cut groove for it firmly, then try putting your front cover on.

I would not weigh your sump in too much on your calculation. Personally, I would stick with the 200 series skimmer on that setup, either the Double Cone or the Super Marin. The Double Cone 200 with the RD3 Speedy pump is a pretty awesome setup!

thanks, I have leaning toward Double Cone 200. How is it comparing to SM200?

Joined the club - Bubble King Double Cone 180 with RD Speedy. Thanks to Premium Jeremy for getting it shipped out so quickly and securely.

This pump is insanely quiet and powerful. Goodness. If I didn't see water flying around I wouldn't know it's on. The DC controllable-ness is awesome. Makes dialing it in easy...I think. Heh :bounce3:

It's uh, large! My building guys thought it was furniture ;-D

I think the cup might be an upgrade. Hmmm

Less than 24 hours...already some minor amounts of tea. This bodes well for the future as it breaks in.
