First off, I'd like to say great job on all your work done!!! The tank and set-up looks fantastic. I have a similar project about to begin. I will defiantly need some advice throughout my journey.

I found out about reef central about 2 months ago and recently joined, hoping I would be able to find some people doing big projects like myself. This has opened a whole new level of what I originally had planned. I have a 400g glass tank that is just itching to be set up. I am going to create a thread within the next few days to start gathering everyone’s great ideas. Please check it out…. your opinion look valuable!!

Here's a pic of my tank.

Nice looking tank Dustin. I look forward to being able to follow your thread. The more people that post info about their projects, the more knowledge gets spread around - and that is always good for the hobby.

Oh and:

Did a little work on the skimmers yesterday. Got them all put together and leak tested. The Dart Gold pumps have a 2" inlet connection that takes most of a whole roll of Teflon tape to get it to the point where it stops leaking. The smaller, 1 1/2" connection is nowhere near as bad. These Reeflo Orca 250s are BIG! :eek1: Much bigger than I had pictured in my mind's eye - but they are kinda cool:

Here they are, a little more in relation to the size of the tank:

Tank-and-Skimmers.jpg

I got both the custom collection cups and needle wheels which are available for the Reeflos. Mike Leonard at reefspecialty.com designed them. Mike was a lot of help with putting these guys together.

The fit and finish on these skimmers is fantastic. Combined with the Gold Dart pumps, I really think they represent a hard to beat value/performance package. Being the pedant that I am, the only problem I could find with these guys is the fact that the "Reeflo" decal is not placed in the same position on both skimmers.

I went with 2 skimmers because I'll have a total system volume pushing 600gals by the time my fuge and frag tanks are online. I want to get the crud out of the system as quickly as possible and I think two of these great skimmers will do that. Now that I have them sitting there, I can't wait to get some saltwater in the tank so that I can get'em up and running. :D

This pic has nothing to do with the skimmers - I just thought it was cool ::cool:

Looks great Tom. Those 2 skimmers are huge. Are you going to feed them directly from the overflows? The good thing with 2 skimmer is that you can take 1 off line to clean it and still have 1 going.

looks like a fish operating room! lol :D , great job and attention to every detail

two skimmers also gives you the ability to skim one wet and the other dry, pulling out different organic waste

can't wait to see this up and running, I'm sure it will be outstanding, do you have a livestock list going?

Thanks Chris. I will try to feed them directly. I'm using BeanAnimal's standpipe design which relies on the main pipe holding a full siphon. I'm not yet sure how feeding two skimmers will effect that - but I definitely want to try it.

Being able to take a skimmer offline to clean/maintain it is definitely an advantage. My main reason for two skimmers though, is quick removal of impurities. There are many that would disagree with me, but I've always noticed that each skimmer model seems to have a "gunk" threshold, at which it will begin to skim out the bad stuff. My theory is, two skimmers won't remove twice as much skimmate as one - but they will remove the same amount a one twice as fast.

spookey - thanks Chris, I appreciate it.

KB2202 - thank you Sir

Elliot -" two skimmers also gives you the ability to skim one wet and the other dry, pulling out different organic waste" "do you have a livestock list going?" - Hey Elliot. Thanks! That's a darn good idea that I will definitely try.

A livestock list is kind of a problem for me. As I mentioned in the start of the thread, my experience in saltwater was all in Europe. During those years many fish, angels and butterflies, for example, were illegal because of CITES. So I don¡¦t have any experience with a lot of what's available here in the States. I'll slowly be putting a list together and then, I'll probably post it here to get everyone's opinion.

edandsandy - thanks Sandy. Will you be posting pics of the repair on your tank?

spsfreak - :D:D:D - thanks, I think .... ;)

erics3000 - thank you Eric. I always appreciate your comments here, considering the talents you've shown on your own system.

Beautiful build so far. Keep up the stunning build. :p
Thank you, very much - quite a compliment coming from such an accomplished reefer as yourself. How is your Centropyge joculator doing?

Thank you for the kind words. The joculator is great. The personality took me awhile to get used to; especially since my montiporas do not have the same PE, but it puts a smile on my face every time I see it :)

i love those skimmers...i do not have one but have a dart and know what it can move....so it much be sweet to have it on a skimmer.....i had a problem with my intake leaking....i only used a few layers of tape though then i used loctite sealant but should have did what you did first....greats pcitures!!

Yes, Tomorrow we move the tank:beer:
we wanted to have the tank in place before we tried to repair it, per the advise from the Mfg. and a lot of friends here on the RC.

How did up get electricity to the fans..
I noticed that the fans have some kind of plug-in like to a computer not like a standard 2 or 3 prong electrical plug.

I just used DC connectors. See the first item in the link:Connector

The link shows a male connector. I installed the female into the fan box. I wanted to be able to control the left and right fans separately, so I bought two 1000mA 12V power adapters and mounted them on the top of the rack.
