can I see some pics of bare bottom tanks?

Kong, I read your previous posts on making the bottom, I am wondering how the performance has been over time. Did the stuff seem to leach anything? Any problems with cracking or discoloration, etc?

Only issue is the same one all BB'ers experience; it eventually all turns purple! (Or, in my case, a deep red corraline, as no other corralines seem capable of living under the stronger lights I use)

It seems like a great trick, I am so afraid of commitment though. Can you think of any way to make it removable if you change your mind?

Remove your rocks and pull the boards out? I've got thriving SPS in my system, so I dont think the board is leaching anything.

Boards? I must have missed something. I thought you just poured the mixture into the tank and sprinled a bit more sand on top?

I'm sort of in an inbetween zone with my tank right now. I much prefer sand but thanks to the possibility of moving sometime in the next year I'm considering going bb until I've settled into a more stable housing situation. Would y'all please share your experiences with detritus and whatnot after your bb tanks become not-so-barebottom after corals start growing on the bottom?

Have you seen any negative impacts to date?

Thank you!
Phil

And it doesn't stick to the glass? Or did you put it in after it was formed?

It will stick to the glass... When people do a faux BB they will cut the starboard to the size(s) they need and then I know one way to do it is to take duck tape and place it around he perimeter of the board to act as a wall to hold the epoxy in until it dries, this is all done outside of the tank...

I have a bare bottom tank, however I built an acrylic dam of sand in the front of the display sides. The rocks are stacked right up to the dam and you cannot tell it is a bare bottom tank. So I get the pleasing display of a sand bed, and the advantage of bare bottom.

Not the best pic but heres mine:

I am really really considering going BB. Would I have to re-acclimate all of my fish if I pull them out, drain the tank, take out sand, and re-fill it with fresh SW?
