Can my tang survive on nori alone?

I've had my tang (7" African Desjardini Sailfin tang from Divers Den) for a month now and he won't look at anything except nori. He demolishes nori, though. I've been giving him about a sheet a day...he can't get enough of it. Can he survive on this? He looks to have fattened up a bit since I got him.

He is currently in QT being treated with hyposalinity for ich. I've tried PE mysis, brine shrimp, flake, pellets, clam on half shell, black worms, angel/butterfly cuisine, etc. I've also soaked all my food in garlic...no luck. I plan on trying live brine, but he hasn't even looked at anything but nori.

yeah your fish looks very healthy. once you introduce him to your dt and he sees other fish eatting other things he will follow.

Try raw shrimp or scallops from the grocery store at the fresh fish section. Freeze it then chop into bite size pieces.

Don't use the garlic................maybe that is what's turning him off or killing the smell of the food.

Try putting the food on the Nori clip if possible. He may be react more positively if it's presented that way. Or maybe a small chunk on a stick that he can pick off.

My big Achilles went 18 months on nothing but nori. I would soak nori in a little bit of water and vitamins and then let the mix evaporate until it was dry again and feed. For some reason at month 18, the AT started eating everything and I mean everything for no apparent reason. Keep an eye on your fish's weight thought - my AT got somewhat thin for a while there despite the fact that it was getting ample nori four times a day. Good luck.
