Chinese LED Lights

Bostoreef, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I do not have PM set up on my computer.

If you could answer here it would be great. I have had one more LED light go down since my original post.

That's so strange. I have 6 EG (3 different models) fixtures and a close friend has 4 more (2 models). We've had them for 3 months and no issues whatsoever. Are they all on the same channel? Are they all the same color? :sad2:

I got mine running finally on my 150ish. 24/60/27high, 2d120's.

My blues are royals 2red 2 green 2 violet and the rest are cw.

This is on only at min on both channels. I lost all of my coral previously in a course of moving to this tank and it was not stable. Alls well now as I have good light (previously 2 400 hqi's) but I couldn't afford my power bill. So I had to get these to stay in the hobby. All corals are mushrooms bubble tip nem and gsps and lots of sponges and small liverock born life that has come back as the tank has gotten well established at this time.

Has anyone put one of these on a standard 10 gallon? :) Pics would be sweet! I know you would have to turn it down, but at least it could grow with your tank sizes right?:lmao: No I am serious. :eek2:

There is no reason why you couldn't use a D120 over a 10g tank. And you are right, in 3 months when you are ready to switch to a 30g tank this light will be perfect! But seriously, you are going to put a $180 light over a $10 tank? I'm sure you have a good reason, but please share it with us.

I am trying to buy stuff that will allow me to grow with my budget. I have gone through both of these threads. I have not yet to see one over a 10gl tank. I might have to do a small canopy though. I am looking at t5s and by the time you replace them and buy the set up you might as well go with the leds. I was hoping someone already did it. :) I am slowly gathering my stuff.:headwalls: baby steps. Wife is not on board yet. :headwally: nuff of my rambling
Wonder what the par would be on the bottom?:hmm3:

How deep is the tank and what PAR do you want to have? I'll measure that deep into my tank and see what power settings give that PAR value. Your tank is so shallow you can have any PAR that makes sense. The D120 runs room temperature cool, so you could just hang something off the sides of the light to keep it from spreading too much. Are you going to use lenses? 90's or 120's?

I would prob just use what is on it and maybe change out the the lenses if I needed to. I don't think I am going that big. 20 long or 30gl cube. Or in other words as much space I can get. The 10gl is a stepping stone for me. I have a 20l but its had a pet in it and its way dirty don't want to risk it. The 90s would prob be for more of a cube anyways right? A lot of this is chump change for some of you guys. :)

QUESTION

I just got my two reefbreeder photon32's hung and turned on for the first time tonight. Everything looks good except when I power them off I see the blue little light stays lit on the touch screen and I hear a higher pitch whistle sound that is coming from inside both units... Is this normal?

I unplugged the two units for now since it doesn't seem like they should be making this noise when they are turned off.

Oh, and it is definitely not the fans running that I hear as I checked that. It is coming from inside the units and the noise stops when I unplug them (obviously but just to clarify it is the lights making the noise). The sound is coming from the far left side of the unit (does it on both units).

Oh, and when the lights are ON the sounds goes away....

Anyone hear these sounds? Solution? Is it broken? Is it normal?

????? :mixed:

I hear them. Just under 8kHz. I got tired of my remote controlled unit whining and glowing, so I stuck it on a tank that wasn't in my bedroom, and I bought one of the manual units, since at least I could just put it on a timer if it whined, and I like it a lot more. The programmable one just seems gimmicky and hard to manually adjust. The Manual one seems like they used really good parts and I prefer the two dials to the fussy buttons.

But it still whines. If I turn the dials down until they click off, it whines, though quite a bit less than the other one, but if I flip the switches off, it goes quiet.

I tried putting the noisy one on a computer battery backup with electrical noise filtering and nothing changed. It still may be that I have electrical issues from something else in the house, but I suspect most people just don't have it near their bed.

The noise is really my only complaint with this light.

Mine would whine if I turned everything off just not unplugging it. The only time the screen comes on is when the leds or moon lights are on. With just the moonlights on it did not whine. I had to literally put my ear up to the front left are by a small black box inside the front of the unit. So I turn lights on (moonlights or other) and the whine goes away. I turn the unit off while still plugged in it whines, only thing on at this point is the blue dot not the screen.

Why is that every time there was a power outage/loss, my It2040 v1.6 always load the 1hr settings instead of the 0.5hr interval that I have set? any one who's experiencing this problem on their unit? Sunny from evergrow already sent me a new lcd controller still the problem occurs.

sounds like you're settings aren't saving. are you selecting to save them?

Hi Monkiboy

What I did is reset the unit first to factory settings, then select 05hr hit save go from step 0 - 23:5 enter my desired intensity on each step and hit save.

my tank photoperiod is 9:00 - 21:00 so I'll select an intensity at 9am (10, 0) hit save go to 9:30 (30,5) hit save, 10am (50,15) hit save and so on. I've also tried to preview all the settings and save even the 0 - 8:30am which was left as 0:0 intensity.

This is from a led diy i recently did. It consist of three icecap aluminum heat sinks and a few pieces of aluminum angle from lowes. I used 54 Chinese led's and drivers with no optics, thought I would show some sps growth.

is the whine people are talking about from the units only isolated issues or are all the units noisy?

I've got a photon 16 arriving tomorrow

Got me worried now!

I have two IT 2080's and neither "whine" or make any noise at all. And, none of my 5 D120's has the problem. Also, our club has bought well over 150 EverGrow fixtures (mostly D120's) and I have not heard one complaint so far.

Good to hear. Got one as a b day gift for my friend and it arrived today.
Shipping was quick too. Ordered it on the 15th and it was on my porch this afternoon. Not bad from CT to CA.

Looking forward to getting it over his tank.

I have 5 EG/RB fixtures (3 different models) and none of them make any noise at all. I have 2 very similar led fixtures from SunSun and some other Chinese mfg and both have fans that aren't loud, but do make some noise. I'm glad they aren't in my living room.
