Choati Wrasse success?

I recently FINALY aquired a pair of Choati Wrasses:bounce3: I realize the odds are against me on keeping these fish alive longer than a couple of weeks. So I was wondering is there any success stories out there besides the ones in Kevin Cohen office display?

1- What do you think is the deciding factor on your success?
2- How long have you had them?
3-Tank size?
4-Tank mates?
5- any other info?

Please post Pics. I will post as soon as I feed again, seems thats the only way right now to entice them out of the sand).

Lets try to keep this Just about Choati Wrasses.
Not leopards in general.
Thanks

Nevermind here's my Choati's

I have one in my tank for about 2.5 months now. I bought it from a local reefer who bought it from DD. He had it in his tank for about 6 months. Mine is in a tank with anthias, wrasses, tangs, and angels. It eat pellets and freeze dried mysis. Not sure if the success is because it was bought from DD or just plain lucky but he's one of my fav wrasse. Make sure u have plenty of pods in your tank cause he'll hunt all day

I kinda thought they both looked male to me also. The way they interact though shows no sign of aggression. I'll have to keep an extra close eye on their fins and behavior. First signs of aggretion and I'll have take one out.
Thanks for the info and comments.

Yeah, looks like it to me too. The greenish spot over the gill cover is how I believe you can tell. Good to hear there are no signs of aggression though. Good luck with them, they're beautiful!

I know Steve (snorvich) has been successful with his chaoti. Only a few out there that are successful.

funny fish if you ask me , i have had a dozen of them and they die within days ,weeks ,of months fat happy and looking healthy as a horse . something missing in the puzzle if i might add .all mine have eaten great come out swimming and frolicking about the tank ,picking on pods and then they die ?
on a brighter note i wish you the best and i would give them some quiet time without the flash camera going off .

I've never had any experience with these but I spoke with some of the people over at Quality Marine during RAP. They said the ones they have brought in all do great. They have no complaints from customers about them passing. Maybe a sales pitch?

I shot some video of their display tank at the show with a Choati Wrasse. Just need to get off my lazy but and post it.

i got five from Quality Marine and none made it past a month . only one came in DOA and i was reimbursed for him . i didn't complain to them but they all died and please believe me i did everything in my power to give them a great home with plenty of live foods .heck the live food cost me more than the fish one time but it didn't help . i have heard that they may have alk and ph swing difficulties and dosing one a day may be to much for them to handle . im in the middle of getting everything put on dosers so i wont be bouncing my alk up and down a point or two per day .

Update: Both Choati's are doing great. They are out alot more and pretty much never leave each others side. They both ate a good amount of PE mysis loaded up with selecon today. I also feed 2 different types of flake a green and a red. They both pounded the red but really didnt show much interest in the green. Thats fine my chevron tang didnt mind.
I'll keep everyone posted and up to date with these guys.
MTH, lets get on that video. I cant wait to take a look.

awesome to hear Patrick ,it looks like they are in a well established tank which is a great start . do you dose you tank for alk ?

There are various thresholds: one day, one week, one month. The last threshold eludes many folk. Once you have passed one month, you are looking pretty good.

Maybe a problem in the capture method? I have had similar issues with other wrasse.

Glad to hear your pair is doing well! Very pretty fish.

tried 4 times.

none success.

the only one that was successful survived for 2 months but got skinnier and skinnier despite feeding very well. internal parasites problem i thought, but at that time, praziquantel was not available in my country.

now praziquantel is available and if they come again, i will try once more.

de-worming is important i feel.

Steve, how long have you had yours?

Anyone know about how long Kohen have had his?

The more I read about this fish the more it seems to be a candidate to stop buying & better left in the ocean.

iamwrasseman, I dont dose alk. Not sure why but my alk only swings between 9.1 and 9.3.
I'm kind of a freak with my parameters in my aquarium. IMO I dont feel that minut of a swing is affecting anything in my tank. Everything at the moment seems good.
I do have a question on this praziquantel. From what I understand is its a dewormer and a remover of internal parasites, is that correct? Where would you aquire this product?
Another question I have is I have read that Choti Wrasses 75%-80% of them are imported with intestinal parasites, so that means they have them in the wild does that mean death for that 70-80 percent. If they have them in the wild whats the deal with them in the aquarium, prolly spreading of the parasites?
I will search the web on praziquantel to better my knowledge, but any info and experence with this product would be appreciated.
I do feel how ever that most important right now is to make sure stress is low and food is abundant, for at least a month. I will then think about praziquantel.

its found in " prazi pro" and seems to work well on all my other wrasses and probably the choati's too but there is something that i haven't figured out or admittedly they should be left on the reef .your alk swing of .2 is fine but mine goes down 1.5 each day and i have to adjust accordingly every day to keep it up . i wish i could put my finger on the cause for it dropping but i haven't figured it out yet so i have to dose . i will be dripping my alk in about a week when i get the necessary equipment .
