Comline Filter with a 7200

Roger, I have a question...

After looking at the Tunze site I see that the Comline filter is available with a 7200/2 (Comline Filter Kit 10). I already have a Comline filter 3166 (part of the Reefpack) plus a spare Turbelle 7200 / 7091 combo that I would like to use with it. Could I use the single controller to control the speed of the 7200 or do I need to let the Turbelle run at one speed?

At first I thought this would be OK but then realized that it might change the water level (within the filter) and mess with the osmolator.

You can do this, the Osmolator will work fine it just sets for what the water level is at high speed, the flow will not create such a great difference that it makes a problem. The 7200/2 really pushes the limit of what the 3166 filter can handle and in my experience you will get micro bubble problems at full speed within a few days as the cartridge gets clogged. Just use a coarser filter or turn down the pump a bit.

Thanks Roger, that's what I needed to know. The way I usually run the filter is with the filter cartridge a day before and after a water change, just to polish the water. The rest of the time I'm running carbon in the media basket.
