Copperband Butterfly Primer

Copperband

Copperband

Just moved my copperband from QT (treated with chloroquine phosphate and prazipro) into my DT. I have a YT that is a little bit larger than the copperband and he is not happy. The first day was awful, the YT chased the copperband all around until I finally covered the DT with a quilt to make it completely dark. The next day was a little better and now the YT just darts at the copperband for a few inches and then stops. The copperband is slightly stressed and is swimming on one side of the tank next to the glass. However, when I feed mysis he comes down to the rocks and devours 5-6 Hikari mysis shrimp. After that he doesn't seem to interested in anymore. I hope that is enough to keep him healthy. I am also hoping the aggression from the YT will continue to subside.

I dont think tangs mix with a cbb, i have neither but ive, watched a lot of youtube vids seeing a yellow tang being aggressive with the butterfly

I got 4 tangs in my 320 g DT. I also have a 40 g frag tank that are in the same system and a 30 g QT (reef tank)
the 4 tangs in my tank are Purple, Yellow, Powder Blue, and Blochii. I also have a one spot Foxface. I am about to remove the Blochii. From experiences in the past the Powder Blue is the one that will give the CBB the most problem I think. I used to keep all these fish in my 450 g tank about 15 years ago. I plan to put the CBB in my QT, once he is judge to be fine, I will move him to the Frag tank and keep him well fed there. I plan to trap the PB tang, once I trap the PB, I will swab place for the two fish. Once the CBB do well in the DT, after a few months, I will release the PB back into the DT.
Once establish I think the CBB will hold his own against any of the tangs. Just newly into the tank is the problem. I also have 8 carpets in that tank, stressed fish often will not do well blunder into these carpets.
Now I need to get a healthy CBB and a fish trap big enough to do the job or remove my 7 inches Blochii.

I feed my CCB in my 420 g tank by drop a frozen steamer clam in the tank one a day. As the clam thaw out, the CBB move in and start eatting, one he has his fill, and as the clam shell split open more, the rest of the fish move in and finish the clam. I have to remove the clam shell out of my tank often because I don't like the look of a lot of shell on the sand bed.
Of course the CBB also clean out all my feather duster, and a lot of my Medusa worms and other sand bed and worms on the rock. I did not have any aptasia problem so I did not know if he eat aptasia or not.

Anybody here keep more than one CBB in a reef. The books said that we should keep one or else a pair or group. :)

Could You post a vid of this ?? Did you ever got your CBB to eat pellets or flakes ?

I took down my 420 gal tank a few years ago. I just set up my 320 gal tank about 6 months ago. There is a thread on this aquarium here:

I am trying to get a CBB for my reef right now. I have two CBB in my frag tank hook up to my DT. i am trying to get them in great shape before release them into my DT. They were eating frozen brine shrimp at the LFS but in my frag tank they keep on spit out Frozen Plankton. I will get some frozen Black worm tomorrow, If they don't eat this I will have to order some live black worm and start a black worm culture.
The two CBB I have in my frag tank gets along well with each other but I have to get them to eat well.

Paul,
Can you give me some pointer on raising black worm. Is a fresh water aquarium with under-grave filter appropriate to raise black worms. If not, what kind of filter? Can you give tell me/us how you raise your black worms? What do you feed them? How do you enrich them for your reef?

My LFS has 2 of these that they have had for 2 months both eat black worms, mysis, and pick at stuff all day. They are FAT. For 69.99 I think its a steal, it will be an addition to my tank in the future.

Do they have them together?
Anybody here keep a CBB pair?

Never mind about the Black worm culture. I found some thread where Paul wrote about how he keep them.
Thanks

Mine is with a square tail bristle tooth tang and zero issues as well

Mine is in with a 4" yellow tang, a 6" hippo tang, and a 6" vlamingi. The vlamingi will occasionally chase my CBB, but mostly ignores it. The other two completely ignore the CBB.

Blackworms come in fresh water but you can feed them to salt water fish. They die in saltwater in seconds, but the fish don't mind.
I don't remember if I put this on here, but here is a video of my copperband eating live worms. My fish get these every day and have for decades.

And there are health benefits even tho theyre freshwater worms?

Those two fireclowns are 23 years old and still spawning. Every fish in that video except the copperband is spawning. That is the health benefit.

How I clean the worms? I don't get involved in their personal hygiene habits and don't even know if they brush their teeth. I suck them up using one of these, and shoot them in the tank just like in that video above.

LOL !! I meant if you wash them before you shoot them in. And just to clarify this are the normal black worms anyone can find in the back yard ??

No these are not the normal blackworms you fine in your back yard. These are California blackworms that live in fresh water.
