Copperband Butterfly Primer

Thanks,
I got him trained on eating clams now. I just drop a frozen clam every day in the tank after I feed the whole tank. He would pick at the clams for several hours until the clam open enough for the rest of the fish to move in and finish.
He was a little thin until I got him on the clams. My sump is full of aptasia. I just rotate a few rocks to the DT every few days and he would just pick them all off in a few days.

My new CBB is eating like a champ but is there an issue with eating too much? Every time I feed a mussel he eats until he is going to explode then eat more. Do you have a feeding regime? How often do you feed clam/mysis/blackworm etc ...

I would not worry about a Copperband eating too much, most people have the opposite problem. Biggest issue with them is getting them to compete with other fish, they'd much rather shy away and starve then show any boldness (except for in PaulB's tank of coarse)

Mine ate so much she laid an egg.

I know many people have problems with these fish, but I don't know why unless they are not feeding them what they want. Video eating worms. This is old, he is a lot larger now

 Paul you know fish will not eat that cucumber. You must first shave off paper thin pieces! :lmao:

Great thread and excellent information !
Thanks to all posters and especially Paul_B

I have just acquired my first CBB 2 weeks ago.
My set up consists of pretty calm fish and the CBB has settled in nicely
I have a good pod population and I also have a Mandarin

I am feeding live black worms but I am having difficulty getting her to try frozen mysis, PE Mysis etc. Aptasia still seems present but feather duster etc worms seem to be limited now

Before I bought, I had seen her eating at the LFS so I feel confident that I can keep her healthy

More news soon and thank again

local lfs had a couple of these on sale for $15 about 2 1/2" . the one I was interested in was eating Mysis and passively picking at a raw fish piece.
I have a 110 with a bunch of wrasses and trio of anthias.

just wondering how much of a challenge it may be to feed the copperband.
I kind of prefer a yellow longnose but finding them healthy is a challenge in my area.

have a small clam..anyone keeping these with clams and issues?

I have always kept copperbands and clams with no problem. I have a copperband and a clam now. No problem. Copperbands do better if you can feed them twice a day but they will live fine on one feeding as long as it is meaty like clams or worms. I really don't know why so many people have a problem with this fish

Have had mine going on 1 full year. Very aggressive eater. Only eats hikari mysis which I soak in vita chem and selcon twice weekly

Would he get along or fight with my small sailfin tang since they both have stripes? My sailfin is dwarf size, should I get my CBB biger, smaller or same size as the sailfin tang?

Thanks fellas

im assuming the CBB should be a little bit larger than the sailfin since the CBB's are peaceful to begin with, but the sailfin may be the feisty one

I've had one for just about three years now. I feed it, and all my other fish a mix of snow crab, clams, nori, lobster meat, oysters, scallops, mussels, and fresh fish (such as snapper, flounder, or grouper). I let it marinade in Selcon, cyclopees. and some kind of zooplankton. It then chop it up, put it in a freezer bag, flatten it out, and freeze it. My fish are extremely healthy and I believe the reason is the food. Much better than PE mysis.

BTW, CBB's have an awesome personality. It always follows me when I walk past the tank. Definitely a favorite.

Hooray for black worms !! :spin3:
My CBB is sucking them up like spaghetti !
Still spits out mysis and brine but black worms are readily available in my home town and Paul recommends !

I also listen to what Paul says! Glad to hear all the success stories. Expecting to get my first CBB in several months. Have to finish my tank build and cycle.
