CoralVue KH Guardian Pro Alkalinity Controller Thread

ReefKeeper64

Wanna be a reefkeeper
Hello folks,

I am starting a thread on this product because I searched and did not see one on RC. CoralVue is calling it the holy grail of reefkeeping and if it is reliable, I'm in.

I first saw Shih87 mention it on his build thread at http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23942212&postcount=363

Please share your feedback if you own one. Especially experiences about reliability and ease of maintenance/use.

Thanks,
Chris

There are few people on another forum who are using this and the results thus far have been very positive. In fact I jut heard that they are releasing a module to allow for connectivity with controllers like the Apex.

They better get on that and reduce their price.

Neptune has one in the works and pacific Sun is releasing theirs this summer. I know Pac Sun is doing a combo with their kore 5th doser included for less then a grand which would stomp the coralvue pricing.

I am excited to see these coming on the market and with various competition so the prices should drive to be more realistic.

Yes good ol fashion competition is always good for the consumer. I like you am very grateful that companies are now addressing the active monitoring of such a vital part of the chemistry of our tanks.

I feel that these devices might just change our hobby for the better. The best local reefer I know in Tampa keeps 2 tanks that are always at TOTM quality. He has calcium reactors on both tanks and still tests his KH every single morning without fail. Every friggen' morning on two systems! I can't do that as I travel a lot during the week but he says this is the single most important thing he does to achieve great results.

Anyone with personal experience using one of these CoralVue products? They are the first ones out of the gate.

I just found this video about the Guadian and thought I would share it. I'm not promoting CoralVue and will probably wait for the GHL myself but since CoralVue is out the door first, I thought it would make for a good discussion thread.

Hi
I have got one coming in the morning as I am having a problem with my dastaco keeping the tank stable as its working flat out due to high numbers of sps.Hoping this helps to supplement the reactor and keep it more stable.

Let us know your thoughts once you have it up and running.

For those who havent already looked it up, the KHG costs $1270. I will definitely be waiting to see what comes to market at that price. I think they made a mistake here. They got greedy knowing they are the only item on the market. Had they made the price reasonable, they would sell 2-3x as many and have a much better foothold on the market. Now they will have most folks waiting on the competitors to comes to market.

I am personally waiting on Jonas's Alkatronic. This is a guy who did this as a DIY project and appears to have some amazing accuracy, and it integrates with your Apex to serve as safety to primary dosing method (Solenoid for CaRx etc). It will apparently also dose liquid Bicarbonate if needed in case of significant drop as a backup to your other gear.

This is an exciting time in reefing, as others have noted, keeping your kh solid is THE number one thing to keep SPS. Nearly every one of my problems with SPS was a result of a drop in Kh or an overdose of Kh. All other parameters can be adjusted easily and slowly to keep things in good shape, where if your alk dips low or high for an extended period...you can say good bye to your SPS.

Mind you that is a monitor and doser. They have the monitor only version out soon for $600 and it has apex compatibility via their AIM module. It was shown at reefapalooza and looks like a solid piece of equipment.

I will probably grab one as 600 is reasonable and will lt me keep my calrx in tune as my demand changes in the tank with growth and frags.

Neptune and others would have made a ton but they are all sitting on their behinds. The fact that coralvue will integrate with an apex with the additional module for a "fair" price makes it almost a no brainer as opposed to waiting an additional year for the others to release.

As great of an idea as it is, I too think 600$ is a bit steep for it. There is no doubt that I will make life easier and changes to our CaRx more "real time". I just don't know if I personally can do 600$ for that. That's a lot of test kits!!!

Just my opinion though. :)

I would gladly do 600 for automated testing. I spent over 500 for a quality dual stage reg as is already so 600 to automate my readings is money well spent
