Crosshatch trigger not eating

I have this guy around a week and it still not, anyone have any idea when it will start eating, as i know the male will tend to shy when intro. i feed him with nori direct into his mouth and he split out after having a bite on it.

I had several males before from extra small and large male. They are much harder to feed than female. It usually takes a week so that is normal Also try mysis and brine.
 
He is active swimmer, large size and just ignore the food. will try to feed clams direct into his mouth tonite and see hows it goes. can i know how long it can survive without food ?
 
If the fish is biting and then spitting out that's a good start, try feeding a variety of things until the trigger finds something it likes. Live brine may be a good choice since it's usually easily attainable of you can make some yourself.
 
Some update. it bite a small piece of nori and just swim away. The 2nd time he came nearby surface, he is no longer interested at food anymore. I need to wait around 6 hours more to make him eat again.
 
I try Brine shrimp, Mysis, Clams and even daphnia he just ignore it, his quite large around 8" not eating for a week and been not eating at lfs for 2 weeks before i bring it home.

whenever i stand near the surface, he will come and bite once and never eat after that, he still swim around near me after that.

Wasn't eating at the LFS before you got him?? So why did you get him? :debi:
 
males often take shipping quite poorly and may not eat for a few weeks...
keep the lights off and drop in a fresh clam...the temp should be comfy for a ch, and not too high...

we dont always have this kind of trigger in lfs, its too rare stuff, i grab it stright away. the smaller one are gone long time since arrival.

Temp are ok since i use a chillers, will buy some clams tonite and see how it works.:uzi::uzi:
 
I second the live brine shrimp, live food stimulates eating instinct. They aren't very nutritious but it should get him started on prepared food...
 
There are other fish in the DT interest after the clam, all eaten up by them. the trigger are less aggressive cant even go near the food.

He is just not used to captivity. You will need to get it out of there and into a QT that's free of any other fish. It will then be more ready to get used to life in captivity.
 
At first i thought he too stress inside the QT around 3 feet. The reason not eating and after weeks i transfer into the DT. The QT now have other fish, i think for the time being i spoon feed him daily and see how it goes. I notice clams are more favorable to them compare to squid.
 
So you have a 30 g or 40 g top QT? If so, it's just too small for an 8" long fish. This fish is rare and expensive. You may want to consider getting a larger QT for it if it doesn't get better.
