d2mini's 130g Rimless Cube

Dennis I don't post much but have been following your thread ever since it began. Sincere thanks for the excellent photos of your wildlife. Kudos for maintaining the concept you set out to create and originally built. The tank appears to be viable and (IMHO) yours is still one of the premier systems on this entire forum. Just letting you know there are more folks out here enjoying your tank than you might know..

Thank you! :fun4:

Just for that, here's a few more pics I took last night.
My Stylo, Clam, Plate Coral and mated pair of black australian clowns.
Sorry, no FTS yet... it's on my to-do list. ;)

G'Day Dennis

Tank look'n great! Fantastic.

Hows the auto WC system going? Feeling a bit bored and was thinking to do the same! Are the pumps staying calibrated or do you need to adjust? I know you will over time, just wondering if it is more trouble than it's worth?

You also mentioned that you might upgrade your ATO to the one on BRS web site? Are you talking about the Level-Loc? If so I highly recommend it. Been working great for me.

Congrats on being a Grandpa-to-be! Can you sell me some of your Grand Children?

cheers

The pumps do seem to need to be calibrated periodically. And they tell you that in the manuals. I just had to perform routine maintenance on both pumps and will now recalibrate this weekend. My salinity has been dropping a bit so it's probably pulling more old saltwater than pushing new which means my ato is taking up the slack and diluting the tank water. Just like with any tank, you have to keep your eye on the salinity. Once you get it tweaked and running properly, any change will be subtle and slow so there is always plenty of time for adjustment. It's the best thing I ever did with this tank. I don't know what I'd do if I had to do water changes the normal way on a tank this size. So far that ato i picked up is fine, but yes... the level loc is the one i was talking about. Good to know it's a keeper. Thanks!

Oh and ya... i have no idea what's going to happen with the clowns. I saw someone on a nano reef forum that put a clay pot in the tank and she layed her eggs there. The pot was then transferred to a 10g tank where they were able to hatch free of predators. I should look into that further...

Awesome. As I asid earlier, one of the most natural looking scapes...very unique in its design.

G'Day again Dennis. Precisely how often is "periodically"?

How did the clowns go?

Thanks for all your help

cheers

I just spent the last hour, browseing this build thread.

d2mini, you have done an awesome job! Can't wait to see it at year two.

Christopher :)

Thanks guys!!! :)

Shaggs... I haven't touched them since I got them calibrated originally. But now that I replaced the little piece of tubing and cleaned the rollers (part of regular maintenance), I'm going to recalibrate as suggested in the manual. I don't remember when i set this up (check back in this thread), but the maintenance beep started going off right before christmas. So it's not often, but likely once a year at the longest, maybe twice, which isn't really that bad considering all the other time and hassle saved throughout the rest of the year. ;)

As for the clowns... look what I came home to on friday!!!!! Finally hosting my Ritteri! :bounce3:

Cool thanks Dennis, twice a year is nothing for an AWC! It is a big in vestment, that's why so many Q's. I am waiting to hear back from AS as I need the 240volt version.

Awesome! Must be very rewarding having them host. It seems my clown wants to host my Chailce? He has two frog spawns and a Hammer to choose from as well but chose the Chalice???? Go figure?

Also watched your equipment video.......very informative. I take it that was before you got your AWC & ATO setup as you were talking about varying water levels in your overflow?

Thanks again for all your help Dennis, tank is looking really good, congrats!

cheers

Ya, that probably was before i set up the AWC. I should do another one and include a tour of the AWC.
For the most part my water level does stay stable. Once in a while it does need a slight turn of the gate valve one way or the other. I'm not really sure what causes the miniscule change in flow but it does happen. No big deal though, as this is where the emergency drain does its job (if the water level starts to get too high) or it just starts to suck a little air if the water level starts to get a little too low. Either way you hear the difference and it's a two-second adjustment. :)

yes mine does the same. I recon the build up of slim and changes in atmospheric pressure contribute. though as the same as you, a very slight turn is all that is required.

Really want to get AWC set up now as I am a real lazy bastered!

KUNG HEI FAT CHOI!!!

cheers
