*d2mini's new 200g Reeftastic Build*

Will be able to see if there is water flow from your camera. You should put a buoy of some sort on top of the sump so you can see the movement from the camera.

Yeah I should be able to see the water flow in the sump.
I can already see it from the cam that's recording the display tank.
If flow stops, the water line drops.
In the sump, the water line will raise. :)

Got some boxes from LifeReef yesterday. :bounce1:
More coming Monday.

Looks like UPS abused one of the packages. Good thing that Jeff packs well (to put it mildly). I've never seen someone pack things as well as he does. That said, it makes shipping expensive. I think my sump shipping was $400 from what I recall. He probably spent $150 of that on packing materials...

My filter cylinders are coming on Tuesday, I'm excited to see them in person (and figure out how best I'm going to use them). Actually, I'm looking forward to seeing how you use yours (so that I can copy, haha).

Lol Nice I see your project manager is inspecting the shipment!!
LOL, yeah and she carried the box she's sitting on.
Child labor is awesome. :D

Ya that box was pretty soft, especially from the damp weather we've had but like you say it was packed so well. 5 minutes to unpack, and an hour to clean up all the packing peanuts. :p
My sump was too big for Jeff to pack/ship so it's coming from a tank builder via truck freight.
They were going to deliver today but I couldn't be home so it's coming monday. :)
My filter cylinders should be coming shortly after.

His packing is absurd... but it's awesome to receive everything unharmed when 1/4 of the things UPS or FedEx deliver end up damaged....

I stand his packages up, cut the tape, hold the flaps to the side and then put a garbage bag around it. Flip the package over and then lift the box out of the bag.

Then I dig through the bag and pull all the goodies out :-)

Here's a quick shot of the "Reefugium" in place with a 150w horticulture lamp. :D
Coke can is for scale!
Tank is empty, you are just seeing reflections.
But that image is color corrected... that's pretty close to the color of the light.

Here's a few more pics of the "Reefugium" while we all wait for the sump to arrive. :)
I must say, Jeff does some nice work.

And if you are wondering how it works...
The water will enter from a bulkhead on the rear top right and flow through the spray bar.
On the left is an internal overflow with a removable egg crate top.
Water will flow out the bottom bulkhead and head to the sump.
The upper left bulkhead is an emergency overflow that will also drain to the sump.
Cutouts on the top are for easier access to the egg crate for cleaning/removing and a couple holes for cords from powerheads or other equipment.

I really like how he setup the egg crate with the screw to hold it in place.

Am I missing something? The drain is gravity fed. Won't your refugium need to be higher than your sump?

Dennis, sorry for the skim but what's going in there again?
Cheato!
Maybe some other macros but no substrate, no rock.
And an MP40.

Thanks :)

Jeff did a great job on that refuge. Definitely a work of art. Can't wait to see the sump tomorrow!!!!
Me too! :D

Head pressure, I assume.
The water level in the fuge will always be much higher than the water in the sump. The area of the sump it's draining to is the return section.
Here's a small photo from his website...

That's what I thought. In the end you want a low turn over rate anyway through the fuge.

What powerhead are you going to use in the fuge?

Dennis, is that Jeff's standard design fuge now, or did you have a hand in the design?

I really like it, I especially like the safety drain bulkhead. I had a clog in the bottom drain of my Lifereefugium a couple years back. Put 2-3 gallons of saltwater in my carpet, and the attendant kalkwasser overdose from the autotopoff damn near crashed my tank.

I think he has two designs. One with internal overflow which is what Dennis got. The emergency drain was either custom requested or a new feature Jeff is now doing.

The other design has two bulkheads at the top. One input spray bar and the other an outlet that goes down into the sump without needing a bulkhead in the sump for the drain.

The emergency drain is definitely a must. I didn't realize it at the time, but without the safety I was basically running a Herbie drain without a dry emergency. Dumb, one clog away from a disaster.

I ended up drilling a hole in the upper part of the fuge and using a uniseal to make my own dry emergency.

Agreed, very smart for Dennis to get that added. I made the mistake of not getting one with an internal overflow.

I will be drilling a second drain into mine as well when I finally setup my new tank that has been sitting in my living room for months. Lol

Dennis, where do you find all the spare time for your builds!?
