With that sump having two inlet sections with the return in the middle. Are you going to have the siphon section go into the skimmer side and the open channel/emergency go into the other?

Are you going to put powerheads in any of the sections?

Already started!
I did a little yesterday and just got done plumbing about 12 hours straight. :crazy1:

Almost done with main plumbing with true union ball valves capping off auxiliary flow to things like the chiller, reactors, frag tank, and mangrove tank. Those I can plumb later. So just a few more bits and I can at least get the main system running.

Sweet!!! Sounds like your kicking some a$$! I can't wait to see the pictures!

ummm, dennis, that thing is full of holes.

can't wait to see this take shape!!
LOL, i knows it. That's probably what makes it look "complicated". :D
I've got holes for the bulkheads I need, bulkheads I might need in the future, holes for CaRx lines, and other "might need in the future" holes.

I'm still trying to decide but leaning towards putting the main drain in the skimmer section (obviously) and then the secondary drain in the opposite section. And the emergency overflow in the skimmer section.

I've got a note into Jeff just to make sure I'm understanding the flow of the sump correctly.

And no powerheads planned.
With the BeanAnimal I should have plenty of flow.

You may want to consider putting one in the return section atleast. I have ~1500gph going through my cl2 sump and there is 0 agitation in the return section without a powerhead. Before I put the powerhead in I would see some slick build up over time.

Merry Christmas Dennis, we all want to see those plumbing pictures.

+1

Merry XMAS!! Lets see some plumbing porn!

And I'm not talking about this kind either. :bounce3:

Ha! Now that IS a Merry Xxxmas! [emoji318][emoji106]

So I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that I completed the main portion of the plumbing which gets the water running through the sump and back to the tank.
The bad news is that I had three leaks!!!
I've never had plumbing leaks before. But I've never had plumbing this complicated before. I think I had too much pressure on some of the joints. Anyway, by midnight last night I had those leaky sections cut out and replaced. Luckily I had enough spare parts. The valves came with both threaded and slip fittings so I was able to use the spare threaded fittings with threaded to slip adapters that I had, instead of having to order whole new valves. I also replaced some sections of hard pipe with a little pvc flex pipe just to relieve a little pressure. Did a quick test this morning and it now seems to be leak free. But we had to leave the house so I'll play with it again tonite and tomorrow.

So once the tank is actually running I can start getting all my rock in the tank and getting my Profilux hooked back up.
I had to pull the main pump off the holding tub so currently I have an mp60 and mp40 as the only flow. Crossing my fingers that it's enough for another couple days.

Then I still have to get all my auxiliary plumbing done. Frag tank, mangrove tank, refugium, and chiller!
So much to do!!! [emoji51]

Anyway, that's the update.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Eat until you pop! [emoji490][emoji485]
I hope Santa was good to you and your families. [emoji2]

Here's a quick shot of the "Reefugium" in place with a 150w horticulture lamp. :D
Coke can is for scale!
Tank is empty, you are just seeing reflections.
But that image is color corrected... that's pretty close to the color of the light.

Are you concerned with this light spectrum being too yellow? Or are you replacing the bulb with one of the MH HPS conversion bulbs that's more white?

It's a refugium and most Macro prefers 6000-6500k light which is more to the yellow or soft white spectrum. My guess is that what you see as far as lighting is intentional.

Yep and I realize that but am thinking that would also encourage other unwanted Algaes to grow due to the spectrum.

haha, yeah... actually it probably is much too yellow for our purposes.
It's meant more for budding plants, around 3000k.
The whole kit was only 65 bucks, so I'm going to try a specialty HPS bulb with more blue in it.
The refugium isn't going to be online just yet anyway.
Still have a lot of plumbing to do.

Slief, no pics yet.
I'm too wiped! :crazy1:

All the leaks are fixed except for one tiny one that I don't even have to really worry about and will fix tomorrow, had to buy a coupling today. It's just a really slow drip, the kind that would probably get clogged by salt creep eventually. But what's interesting is that 3 out of the 4 leaks that I had were all at the same fittings... white sch 80 90 degree sweeps. Found them online when ordering a bunch of other pvc fittings. Thought they'd be less restrictive than regular 90's, but not one of them fully sealed up.

Today I got a lot of aquascaping done, moving most of my rock back into the tank. Gave the skimmer a vinegar bath, then got that setup in the new sump. Drained my water storage tanks and dragged that whole setup back over near the new walls. Installed an outlet on the outside of the wall behind the storage tanks to run the mixing pump. Started running water lines through the wall to go from the tanks and RO/DI to my sump. Put up another shelf to hold the Profilux which I'll move over tomorrow.

Then drove downtown to my office to feed my clown in his nano tank and went for mexican food with the wife and kids and had a JUMBO margarita.

Hmmm. I'm outside Kennet square PA. We have a large Mexican population around here. There are some places here with amazing food! For a lot less than $100!!

ok ok ok! :D

Here's a really quick iPhone vid.
I just realized I could actually edit the vid on my iPhone. Who knew?!

I still have some coral to get in the tank.
Fish too.
A lot of the big colonies I've decided to break up and go back to mini colonies and frags.
Trying to place large colonies in a new scape is too hard.
Even my big frogspawn I cut in like half.

And man, trying to make the scape interesting in a 24" front to back tank is a pain in the butt!

Still working in the fish room.
Woke up this morning to a flooded garage (outside the fish room) because I had moved my mixing station back into place and somehow the RO/DI connection got loose, so as it refilled last night it started leaking.

I think I finally fixed all my plumbing leaks.
Had to replumb part of one of the drain lines today.
Lowe's freakin loves me, and my wife is ready to kill me.
Good news is the beananimal is working awesome and I get a siphon in just a few seconds.

Now I'm starting to plumb in the frag tank.
Need to move my CaRx over, just waiting on a few bits to arrive later this week.
The profilux is mostly moved over but still working on that.
Lots to do still! But at least the tank is running! :)

Good video, good update! Lowe's loves it when I come in, my wife knows what "one or two little fittings" really means too ;)

Glad to see things back in the main tank, on your way to a fun re-grow in period!

Looking really good! I'm with you and iced98lx on Lowes... I spend way too much time in their plumbing department.

Congrats on getting the tank back up and running. Can't wait to see the rest of the fish room! Now lets see some plumbing!

curious for some advice on the technique and tools you use to clean your glass especially on the new tank to avoid scratches? Mag floats, scrappers? Every time i clean my tank its like i find a new scratch, my technique is to use the aqua mop and then i use the Kent scrapper with a green felt edge and edge all the glass on the bottom by the sand carefully not to get a spec of sand on the felt. I am to scared to use a metal edge scrapper with fear of scratches:eek2:
