Deeznutz Hd 120 Shallow rimless (Pics)

If the baffles are at an angle it'll cause the flow to favor one end of each baffle.

If you want a noisy sump it's a great idea.

I would resist the temptation and get the proper sized baffles.

Sure it will work, but do it right like you have all along, you will be glad you did! ;)

Thank you. I've decided to use the Mike Holmes method :)

God no! I know sumps get nasty anyways, but it will bother you over time... and if you're like me, you'll end up redoing it anyways. Everything is so perfect thus far...may as well wait.

Yes I have decided to wait, I hate working on dirty sumps lol

If you put those baffles in there sideways I will unsubscribe lol

It may be on a slight 1-2deg angle lol

If the baffles are at an angle it'll cause the flow to favor one end of each baffle.

If you want a noisy sump it's a great idea.

I've thought of that as well.

:uzi: the people have spoken lol

YES THEY HAVE AND THEY MADE IT VERY CLEAR.

A slanted baffle will also accumulate lots of crud under the slope where it'll be a huge PITA to remove.

This is true.

Update time!!!

Hello all, I hope all is well in your reefs!

So it's been a busy few weeks in the deeznuts household. Not only is this a build thread but it's also a diary of the last year of event in our new home.

Last weekend was my daughters 4th birthday and we wanted to do something really special for her. For all you parents out there, you can understand that 4 is an age where kids really know what they want and can recall major events in their life. So we wanted her to have a super awesome birthday party.

So we decided to do a Frozen theme for her. We have a friend that is an event planner and she did all of the decorations for us. So here are pics of the house transformation.

Throughout the course of the party, we had an extra special guest show up!!! Queen Elsa
The look on her face was absolutely priceless. Stunned to say the least lol.

Continued...

As for the build it's moving along.

The baffle for the sump was the most frustrating thing in the whole build. I asked my wife to get the glass cut 16x15-5/8th. We got it back and it was 16x15-7/8. Sent it out again and it came back and inch short. Got it cut a third time, but it was still a hair too big. I ended up having to shave it down with a carbide tip. Only took me an hour to do lol. But regardless of the set back I got her installed and properly to boot.

Another thing I got out of the way was the return pump. Originally I was going to go with the Reeflo dart/snapper gold. I've been waiting 4 weeks for the pump and decided to go ahead with something different. I've been doing some online research and decided that I don't need 10 times through the sump for the return. The new pump I chose is the Pan World 100PX. It's a pressure pump and rated at 790gph with 21' of head. At 12' of head the pump should still flow 540gph. So I think I'll be fine. It's also 120watts! But on the body it says it's only 70watt. Even better!

Note: There is a difference between the 100px and 100pxx

I got the pump this morning and I plumb this mother mother up! Sump is now being filled and waiting to add salt :bounce3::bounce2::bounce3:
Finally!

Here are some pics of the progress

All of the hoses have to be hung and fastened properly, I just have to figure out how to do it neatly. Any ideas? I also want to figure out a tray type system for the return pump. Everytime I removed my old one, it spilt all over the place :( Any ideas on this as well?

Anywho, I hope you guys are enjoying the build. Its getting close. Light and pumps should be here next!!!:fun2:

August 2, 2014 my tank is officially cycling!

So I've been making water for the last few days and I've finally made enough to get this baby cycling!!!:bounce3::bounce3::bounce3::bounce3:

Not only is today the birth of my new tank, but it's also my daughters birthday :)

I've added a bit of rock to get the bacteria to start to establish and I've seeded the sand bed with sand from my frag tank.

This time around, I've decided to be a bit frugal on my choice of salts. I've been a big fan of Tropic marine Pro in the past 10 years. But the price for this stuff is really getting expensive. So I've opt to use Instant ocean. For $67 retail it's not bad at all. It seems to mix up pretty well. No funny residues I've read. I haven't checked the parameters yet. But I'm hoping it's going to be decent.

I really like how the 200g box comes with 4 separate bags. It eliminates the separation of the elements that can happen in shipping and I no longer need to roll my buckets of salt on the floor anymore:cool:

Who's using IO and what's your water change regime?

Aw here it is... found it! Tagging along here too. I just read the whole thread, filled in all the gaps from the GTAA thread... nice one!

Preliminary Aquascape

So I was out today and picked up some Macro rocks. I got to work and did an aqauscape. I'm going for the less is more, negative space look. I want a haven for my sps and Zoa :)

Sorry for the crappy picture
