Deeznutz Hd 120 Shallow rimless (Pics)

Oh looky what I found in my q tank, I have no idea how it got there??? :D

So ever since I lost my last Achilles to Ick, I swore I wouldn't get another one and be happy with my tang count. Well I was browsing around in one of my LFS and low and behold I found a juvenile Achilles!

Unlike my last one which was fairly matured. This fish reminded me of my very first Achilles, a juvi as well and was in very bad shape. I kept the guy for 5 years and named him todd-ski. Unfortunatly he was sold by a LFS that was housing my fish. But was told it died by Oakville reef gallery who aren't around anymore. Thank god!

Anywho, I couldn't resist the temptation and the achilles holds a special place in my heart. My tank was designed for tangs and the Achilles was at the top of the list!

I've had him for about 8 days now and he's eating well. He's not eating meaty foods but devouring red sea veggies. I've found from my experience is that the Achilles is more of a vegetarian and usually sticks to seaweed. So I'm not too concerned. It would be nice if he did eat LRF to fatten him up quicker.

He's not showing any signs of ich and his belly is starting to get round. I'm going to start hypo-salinity treatment tomorrow since he's in a none stressed state.

Heres a terrible pic of him, notice he's barely got any orange on him and the orange he does have is very muted and dingy. I can't wait for this guy to mature and show me his Colour!

So I really hope he makes it through the quarantine period, I miss having a Achilles!

I'll finish up with a few full tank shots:D

FTS btw added 10 new frags :)

Glad things are starting to turn around for you D, ya man i been debating an Achilles for almost a year now. Really want one one of these days. Ya my tank has been up and down also so i feel you on the issues. But glad to see you back

Nice addition. Achilles is a very pretty tang when mature. You think your sailfin tang won't bother it?
I gave my sailfin tang to the lfs when I restarted my tank. It was the boss of the whole tank.

Looking great Dan. We have the same dimentions, you've got 4 inches more than me in length and I've got you beat by 2" in girth...(wait, that sounds weird) I I should say width.... I might have to reconsider the Achilles... I thought my tank was just a little too small and ruled it out a long time ago... I might revisit that decision...
I am going to pick up a little Kole today and plan for a Purple or Yellow, maybe I'll skip the that and wait for a Achilles. Do you have any plans of adding sand back? Where did you pick him up from? What is your QT protocol? Hypo? How long ?
I am just starting to re-stock after 5 months fallow.

Do you have any plans of adding sand back? I gotta say the BB looks a little drab and dark compared to when it had sand in it. Maybe something a little bigger in grain size. I use special grade, it blows around a bit but does settle down. I do see you've got something encrusting the bottom and that looks cool too...

I'm glad too man. It's about time lol. Most people don't recommend an Achilles in a 4 footer. But my first one that I had for 4-5 years before it was sold on me. It was housed in a 48x30x24. It as only him and a Yellow eye hole tang. He was very happy and fat. My rock scape gave him the ability to run circles in the tank. Best of luck if you go that route. Its the perfect show fish.

Thanks westreef, my Sailfin is a beast and he is quite large. He is the boss right now. But I've had an Achilles with him in the beginning of this tank. But lost most of my fish to ich.
Rest assured that I am prepared to pull any fish that might give my Achilles a problem:uzi:

Nice fish, going to look great in your DT

You know it M007!

Thanks fessoclown, you might be thicker but I'm longer hahaha. I would definitely consider the Achilles with your dimensions. They say that the Achilles should be the last fish add to the tank, minus the almighty Sohal.

My tang list is like this, small to medium sized Kole(must have cleaner) Large Regal and slightly larger Sailfin.

I got him from SUM. Only reason i got him was because it was a juvi. I'm planning on hypo treatment. But I'm just going to wait a bit and see before I put him through the hypo. I believe it will be 4 weeks of hypo and 2 more weeks afterwards. There's been no signs ich and he's eating very well.
All I know is he's not quite ready to for the display.

When I removed the sand bed I was intending to place it back in down the road.
I love the look of a sand bed and I have always done so. But the last few months without sand has really grown on me. With coraline starting to cover the bottom glass it looks pretty good. My Nauti Spiral has encrusted on it as well. I also have some encrusting monti that I'm planing on doing the same with.

To be honest, having a BB tank you really get to see how much detritus builds up over the course of a few weeks. It's pretty disgusting and having a sand bed, I can see why I had all the problems I did. Mind you I barely ever vacuumed my sand. Even if I did, I'd have a hard time getting out all the pooh!

Having sand is nice when"¦its' white"¦not blowing around"¦and not having to vaccum it. I might be a BB for life, but only time will tell:fun2:

I hope that has answered a few of your questions.

Things are looking great! Can't believe how much coraline algae growth you're getting :)

Thanks jroovers! I hate coraline! hahaha. It has really started to explode ever since I stopped scrapping the back walls and overflow box. I think scrapping all of the coraline off every month really messed with my dosing schedule. Just a thought.
P.s I need your photo skills to shoot my tank. Leds are killing me lol.

Wow, tank is looking good. Love the look.

Thanks sahin, I hope my sps keep growing to fill in all the empty space i have :lolspin:

Cool vids deez, leds always make photography difficult!

Thank man, yeah the blue make it really tough at night. I'm going to try another one, more on the 14k side of the spectrum to see what happens.

Lookin' good, lots of room for those frags in the rack

Thanks M007, I do have lots of real-estate for frags, I plan on placing those babies this weekend. You have frags available? I'm a crack whore for frags right now. I've added approx. 20 frags in the last 3 weeks lol.:crazy1:

My Achilles didn't make it :(

So I'm just going to add a few pics to my thread.

Tanks doing well, corals are growing and showing good colour under the Xr15 Pros.

I've add about 20 new frags. Some have browned out a bit, but appear to be healthy with good polyp extension.

I've been very happy with the lighting and I'm only looking forward to them growing out more.

And here are some quick shots from tonight.

It's very berry red and its been showing a lot of yellow as well.
I've had this coral for about 5 years now, it has always grown and then die back. The last time it developed yellow it completely bleached out. It has now regained it's reds and the yellow is coming back. I hope it doesn't bleach out again and starts to carry the yellow gene :) I can't get pics of the yellow unfortunately :(

Sorry about the Achilles, I've never had any luck with them either :( The Naso is a good choice tho, hand feed it some nori and it will turn into a puppy dog :spin2: Acros are looking good, look forward to their growth in the coming months
