Diy led

In my testing, satisled royal blues have a significantly less PAR than the FEDY, as well as poorer visual appearance. Just throwing that out there.

Some say they are the same. They are not. Satis uses a single diode for their RB chips, while FEDY uses double diodes on their RB chip.

Just FYI

ok good tu now both i olready have royal blue i try tu geth the white 18k and i think look like they the same like the Satis i msg fedy like 5 times never geth respond from them back and i vona order 110 led this fri so i think the salis 20k cona du the job i olready have 40 RB from difrent site and i love them i have 12 k i try tu replace fore me new build vith the 18-20 k white.

hey guys!

wow this thread is amazing. I have always been a metal halide guy, but I am starting to find the pluses of LED and esp the savings of DIY. I have a 75g, 48"x18x20 (length width height). How many LEDs will i need to keep a decent amount of SPS. Also, what kind of optics?

Thanks guys

Does anyone have any of these bulbs left? The white I want about 100 so I can get them from fedy but the royal blue I only want about 25 they want me to buy 100 so if someone has some left let me know.

Anybody here heard from FedyLED lately? I have written to them a couple of times since last week & no response yet.
Also, anybody interested in ordering with me? I'm getting 185 10000K Cool white & 185 royal blue. The more the quantity the price seems reduced to an extent we can save a lot after local shipping.

I got a message from them 2 days ago so they are still around I think it depends from which part of the site you go from, I've sent them 3 or 4 other emails that went un answered.

Does anyone have any extra/left over LEDs they want to sell? I want to make a 12 LED setup but I'd rather jsut get the exact amount of each color.. Im thinking 8 blues 4 whites, does anyone have that?

Do you mind sending me the contact information. Thanks

I am running 240 Total 160 18,000 , and 80 Royal Blue , over my 300 and it is super bright . The tank is 72"X36"x27"deep . When I turned it on on full power I bleached all my corals . I had to lift my canopy all the way up , and kick back my photo period to 4hr. I now have Mean Well Drivers , and I am running the 18,000s at 30% , and the Royal Blues at 75% . The color is coming back slowly ,and I love the new look . When I get done I should be running the 18,000s at 60% , and the Royal Blues at 100% .

ok so i don't know anything about led yet want to learn though. does this mean u could have gone with less bulbs at say 80 deg. instead of 60 deg. so u could run at 100%? if u ran 60 optic not sure what u ran.

how do u determine how many bulbs u need over a tank?
how do u know what watts u go with?

I have read the new divers u r running are great and the cree bulbs are the way to go but other then that i don't know much.

any help with out reading all 800 plus posts on this thread would be great!!!!

thanks

Roger

This thread and inspiration was started by Jae Kang using 3 watt FEDY LEDs and FEDY drivers. Some would contend these LEDs are inferior to the Crees but the price is a motivation to go this route. Personally, I've had very good success with the same set up and will run them in this configuration until newer technologies force me in another direction. I think Jae has since gone to MeanWell drivers (I assume to gain dimmable ability).
Now for your questions, optics have less to do with par and more to do with light spread. Running different optics doesn't equate to more/less LEDs, it means how much of the same light is penetrated downward in the cone degree associated with the optic. less the degree the tighter the cone and deeper the penetration.

Determining number of LEDs is dependent on wattage, lumens, amperage, color, and so on. Regarding this thread, the FEDYs will take more than crees based on all of the previous examples. I used an equation based on Jae's tank but was still on the high end. I calculated my tank at 60” x 24” = 1440 sq in and used 134 LEDs = 1 per 10.75 sq in. In hind sight I would drop the ratio to a maximum of 1 LED per 12 sq in. (I think Ted used a similar equation but not sure) I took numerous optics off my white LEDs to allow some more spread and less penetration but I'm still growing SPS on the bottom of my 24" deep tank. If your 65 gallon is standard at 36x18 it is 648 sq ins. I would use a maximum of 54 FEDY LEDs at a 2 white to 1 Royal Blue ratio. If you use Crees, your on your own and will need to find someone more familar than I on them.

Also, I would use the MeanWell drivers if I was starting a build today. They are predictable, well built driver that gives you the option to dim them. (very handy when acclimating your tank to LEDs).

Hope this helps, but you're only scratching the surface of LED technology here...My set up is on page 32 if interested to gander.

ok i am loving this led idea and look, but im on pg 14 of this thread and im confused of whats up and whats down. I am with roger i have a standard 65 gallon and a 92 corner and would like to start a build but honestly am confused. i am not affread of building anything but honestly i need an idiot guide when it comes to elctricity i know some basics and can run 120 wiring from a panel put i cant figure out this %^^%(.

also does anyone have a rough cost of a complete setup for a 65 and a 92. and whats the longevity of the bulbs do they have to be replaced every yr or 2 or 3 yrs
