DIY LEDs with Radion Pro G2 pucks?

so am I to understand that there aren't any harnesses left? :( Anyone happen to have Gen 2 or 3 pucks they're looking to sell either? Turns out if you live in Canada, sucks to be us, because EcoTech's online store only sells to the continental US >.> also our dollar has just recently dropped like a brick, and so any american products are way more expensive than they were 6 months ago (exchange rate of 1.05 to 1.30). Anyway, great thread, I'm almost convinced to try and figure out how to do make myself one.

djmx2002 didn't get enough interest to make the last order. If we can get enough interest now I'm sure we can still get the cables made. I could still use a few as well. Krazie :jester:

I've created a google spread sheet to keep track of people who are interested in being part of a group buy. please fill it out if you are interested. Will need at least 40-50 harnesses to place an order.

perhaps you could just coordinate with someone else order a "test" batch as you did in smaller quantity................

Though I've always wondered why ecotech won't sell just the harnesses to people, seems pretty silly to me. It would keep their products in use and promote the brand as being more sustainable, while creating an extra revenue stream and allowing easy reuse of old pucks that might otherwise end up in the scrap heap.......a pretty good marketing tactic if you ask me......

I could send you the wiring diagram and you could try :)

Honestly, I have zero electronics experience but I was still able to get lights to shine! No need for a crimping tool either. A set of fine needlenose pliers works fine. Using the connectors mentioned in this thread worked perfectly. The only somewhat confusing part was how to solder the LDD to the 3-up and 5-up boards I used and then how the power supplies connected to those boards. Once you understand that, the rest is cake.

Below is the diagram..

G2 & G3 look to be the same MCPCB with modified LED selections.
From bottom up (plug on right)
1 & 10 = + & - for 4 x violets (blanks on non-pro)
2 & 9 = + & - for 4 x cool white
3 & 8 = + & - for 4 x royal blue
4 & 7 = + & - for 4 x blue
5 & 12 = + & - for 2 x red & 1 x center (blank on non-pro)
6 & 11 = + & - for 2 x green

13 - 16 I can't say for sure yet. I believe 13 is not used and 14-16 are for the temperature circuit, but I haven't tested anything to figure out which pin is which yet.

Below is the diagram..

That diagram is only partially correct for the G3 boards. The difference between the G3 and G3 pro boards is only two LEDs per puck. The yellow (amber) and the Deep Red. So all 6 channels have LEDs on them on the G3 non-pro. There are two zero ohm resistors next to where each of the missing LEDs go that complete those circuits.

So Channel 1 has the violet LEDs just not the Deep Red. Channel 5 has the reds but not the Amber. So make sure you wire all 6 channels.

To make the G3 into a G3 Pro you just need to find a source for the LED's solder them in the right spots and remove the two zero ohm resistors from the boards.

Hope that helps. Krazie :jester:

You mean the G3 is missing the amber and a "deep blue," not deep red.

Actually, no. I mean deep red. The G3 non-pro pucks have all the colors shown in this post. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22600384&postcount=181 There are only two LED locations that are not populated. They are the two most central locations on the board.

The Pro version the pads should have an Osram Oslon SSL Yellow, 590nm and a Deep red. I Am still looking for the detail on the actual spectrum of the RED but it is different than the two Hyper Reds that are already on the pucks.

The 4 Deep blues are already on the pucks. This may be different for the G2 or G1. I am only talking about the G3. Krazie :jester:

I'm still pretty sure you're mistaken.

Well I stand corrected. I was able to find the post that said Deep red and it was on another forum and the person that posted it was doing a custom color instead of adding more deep blue.

It's nice to see which channels those missing LEDs are on as well. Thanks for posting the pic. Krazie :jester:

Good news, I found someone on alibaba that is willing to manufacture 50 harnesses for me. The catch is that he might not use the required wiring colors. So extra attention will be needed when connecting those.

I am going to place the order in the next couple of days and will keep you posted when I receive them.
