DIY LEDs with Radion Pro G2 pucks?

So I have 2 pairs of Gen 2 and I want to add some LEDs to them and make it into a fixture. I've gotten lost into this thread. What all do I need? I want this that can fit into the fixture like the actual radions. Please help!

There is no way to add more LEDs to the radion pucks (other than the two open spots to make them into Pros). So we would need more detail on what fixture you are planning to use before we could really offer up any help. Please provide more info and we will see what we can do to answer your questions. Are there different kinds of fixtures? I'm new to this, lol. I want to make 2 fixtures for my SPS only tank. It would be nice to make little pucks with extra LEDs, but I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on this. I want to be a able to control the LEDs with most or all of the radion functions. I want to try to make the body look like the actual radions too. Thanks

I haven't seen any fixtures that you can buy that look like the Radions. Most are just heatsyncs of different shapes. The Radion pucks are very complete so I'm not sure why you would need to add more LED's.

Control is a completely different discussion and really not something we should break out into on this thread. There are many out there that would give good control over the Radion pucks. Look for Typhoon or similar for that. Krazie :jester:

I had extra pucks after I upgraded my Radions to Pros. Instead of selling the old pucks, I decided to make use of them and add them to the tank. It was an awesome idea and I would really like to add a few more. I added a cluster on each end of the tank. I would like to have one on each corner, tilted slightly in, and program them to really give off an authentic sunrise/sunset effect.

CNC Reef makes an enclosure that looks very similar to the Radion fixtures About 1" tall or so complete with fans and splash gaurd.

Rapid LED also has a few enclosures available that are very nice but more the size of the AI LED fixtures. Rapid's has the T slots like the Makers heatsinks, but CNC Reef will drill and tap for you if you can't do that at home.

Can't seem to find weather this has been covered. Does anyone know the foward voltage and max current for the deep blue, indigo, UV, and hyper red on the g3 pucks. I'm currently building an in -wall 180 and would like to build 3 fixtures using the radion pucks.

The Channel max currents are as follows.
white -1500
red- 1000
green-1000
blue-1500 (What your calling indigo?)
royal blue-1500
uv - 1000

Forward voltage on each channel (PER PUCK) is 18V or less. Single fixture with two pucks would be 36V or less. Hope that helps. Krazie :jester:

There is a picture of the new rapid LED fixture two pages back in this thread. Krazie :jester:

One thing I'm wondering, as my panel isn't in front of me, but the gen2 what are the dimmensions of the single panel. Trying to build a single panel to light up a 15x15x15 cube tank. All at 700ma and a storm controller dialed down to not fry any thing.

Any of you guys looking at building lights with these pucks, I HIGHLY recommend that you get with djmx2002 and order cables through his buy. They can be made by hand but I've had to redo mine twice because the crimps don't hold quite right. These premade cables are well worth the few extra dollars and will save a ton of headache. Thanks! I would order the wire kit but I'm doing a single puck on my setup and I just ordered the pins and going to solder them. And doing Vero 10s on my 75.

Thanks for the info krazie

Running two radion pucks on a 16 gallon tank will be WAAAAAAAAYYY too much light. If you were just using 1 of the two pucks (still a ton of light for 16 gallons) then you would have a better chance of success. 24-30 watts of light is plenty for a 16. 1 puck is 38-40 watts of light. Definitely do not run lenses. Krazie :jester:
