Recirc on a Deltec AP851. 38Watts modified.

i am not sure 100% but i think the 5000 will be to big for the skimmer i believe the 3000 can be better .

the 5000 rated 1640 gallon before the mod after smjtkj
mod the pump it's shwon about 110scfh and it's about 3150LPh

it's also hard to tell because no one test it (i didn't see from all those test one pump connected to skimmer) and if they pull more water then air the pump will not perform good on the skimmer.

the true is i can't said that in 100% because i didn't test those pump and i didn't saw them run on skimmer just on garbage can.

mavgi: I didn't see a post with a 5000 modded to be anywhere near the numbers you posted, do you have a link?

magvi, the 5000 is an older version of the Max-Flo/Power-Jet 1500. Mine does about 60 scfh of air.

Id post pics right away, but Im busy setting this new tank up (finally got my steel stand in).

post some picture for your tank, congratulation:)

where you measure 60 scfh in skimmer or in garbage can or bucket like other did and what was the water level if it was in a bucket so i can figure + /- what it will do in the skimmer .and as Rich ask did you measure the pump watt ?

hahn: Please post pictures of your 5000 mod and wattage when you get a few minutes. I got busy and haven't had the chance to tinker with mine yet... but 60scfh is a good result if the wattage is right...

Seriously, Im so backlogged now it isnt funny. I put off alot of smaller projects (like the 'power tower' that houses all the Aube timers, sockets, switches, tunze controller+transformers, HQI ballast, etc. and stants next to the tank), because the steel stand was taking forever (2 months behind intended arrival)... but now that its here... all the spare time I get is going towards it. And since its been a while since first thought of, I have reworked some ideas all together and so I have to get crackin if Im going to have this thing up and going in the next week. Everything is planned out, but I have some legwork to do...

When I get a chance... but I have many other things to do as well... other pumps that I have modded need complete tests, and T5 bulbs as well as reflectors that I have been sent need testing. And then there are 3 skimmers that I have about 1/2 made that need completing...

Im very, very backlogged.

I think I am going to take the plunge and try the 2400. If anyone has a Max-Flo 2400 and they want to get rid of it, let me know.

Thanks,

Slave

I had actually thought about splitting the output into 2-1.25" pipes into the reaction chamber. Coming from a 1" outlet, that should slow the velocity of the water down significantly. I am going to test on a 5 gallon bucket and see how much difference it really makes. I might have to make the bubble plate, but if I do, I am going to do the box and everything like a BKEXT.

Well if anybody wants to trade good flow pump for my modded 2905 i would like to do that.
It wont work as a flow pump now and i don't want to invest on a diff pump impellor to make it work.
I have since learned if you restrict the output with smaller diam pipe it will greatly reduce turbulence. Guess thats just physics. LOL

I'm interested in making a skimmer out of a 20L nalgene bottle (12" diameter 20" overall height, probably about 16" tall without neck). Basically think of a 5 gallon water bottle that is a bit larger and has a much wider neck of about 2.5" ID. Is there a laguna pump that I could mod that would work for this?

with only a 2.5" neck, i think it could only hold about 25SCFH...I may be wrong, but i've got a 2.5" neck on my octopus recirc 110 and with a 5" body it will only handle about 15SCFH. you could prob tweek a little more with the bigger body, but you can really only put as much air in as your neck will handle....otherwise, you just end up with a really expensive water volcano:)
