DIY Stands Template and Calculator

What is size of electrical box?

My wife really likes that ideas!

I used standard 1x poplar (3/4") and the box is around 7" deep, 18" wide along with 34" Tall.

Thanks

Some new pics of the stand painted, I am going to skin it next, but wanted to cover all the wood.

My stand is coming along. 72x28x40. Skinning is next. Is 1/2 inch ok or is 3/4 preferred?

Let me know how I'm doing.

any thoughts? Should I add the inside screw strip? would that make it any stronger or would the skinning do more?

again, my plan is to avoid the center brace.

Thx.

Hi Jstn, what size is the tank?
First select straight pieces of poplar 1x, I chose hardwood for its strength and really want to build a spacious stand that's not too heavy.

I chose to use kreg jigs to join the frame along a dab of Tightbond III wood glue.

I am using 3/4 on the front to help with carrying the load, one the side 1/2 should be fine; It will keep the frame square.

Goodies from woodcraft

Rare earth magnets to hold the electrical panel cover on, along with the sides and front of the canopy, allowing for full access.

Blume self closing slow hinges, kinda pricey but the motion is amazing.

My build is about to start my question is doors, how are people attaching hinges? I want to use euro style and they all require a 1x2 or 1x something to attach too, can I just add a 1x strip to the 2x4 or is there another way. Wanting a modern look. If anybody has got pics love to see

I want a way to just have doors in the front, no plywood used in build aswell. So it will look like just one smooth surface on the front, or do some 1x like I was saying to frame out the doors and hide the 2x4 and tank rim

Quick question I hope? Do you need to skin the tank say on a 40 breeder for more support.

I was going to do top tank 40 breeder and 40 sump then changed my mind. I need to combine two 29 gallon bio cubes for a couple months to maybe a max year while we do some home modifications. Combining the two tanks would save me a lot of hassle feeding and taking care of so would build stand then proper sized tank later.

Stands look pretty strong from most of what I read so hoping that would work.

Thanks.

I just spent the last hour messing around with mspaint. Was having fun, really wish I had a designing program. But I was wondering if you could give me feedback on my stand design. This is more a rack design, the bottom shelf will be storage not much weight, but the middle and top weight will hold a good amount of weight. I'm thinking around 300 lbs but I will like to know the max it can hold. Also I will like the rack to be expandable and if more racks can be attached next to it, without having to have too much alter to the design.

Got the wood, about 2 hours later, the frame is built. Perfect? No, the 2x4's aren't perfectly square, but it's pretty solid!

so now I'm worried. The stand is 40" tall. 18 1/2" wide. The top of the aquarium will be 64".

Is this going to be too top heavy? Yes, I have a fear of the tank toppling over while I'm at work and 110 gallons of water on the floor.

I think it'll be ok. It's 6" taller than my current stand, and same width.

In order for the tank to start moving you would have to apply 190 pounds directly into the center of the tank and continue applying at least that much for about 8" before the tank would even begin to topple on its own. I don't know about you but I can't push that hard......

So I'm slightly paranoid.

I'm toying with the idea of chopping the legs down 4" to make it 36" tall. Would still have 9" of clearance between sump top and top of stand to do stuff. Any advice or opinions?
