drummereef's 180g in-wall build

Yes, only 300-400gph most likely. What's the max GPH that can be pushed through 1" pipe (if you know off hand)?

It gets complicated with PSI/volume being the deciding factor, but in simple terms 1" pipe can handle upwards of 2000GPH. Just to give you an idea, a Panworld pump that pushes 1,700+GPH is plumbed with 1" pipe.

Cool. Yeah, if there's that much headroom I'll be plenty good then. Thanks!

UPDATE:

It is finished! :D I finished up the plumbing to the fuge stock tank today. Like most plumbing projects I seem to get into, there was no tolerance for error. So I took my time over the last few days to get it right. Like discussed, I ran the return plumbing through the wall to the back of the fuge tank. This allowed me to install the bulkhead on the flattest part of the tank. I think it was the best decision even though there was quite a bit of planning and work involved. Here's the pics...

Here you can see how the return line is plumbed through the wall just to the right of the valve above the return pump. (Don't mind the drywall dust on the pump riser, I cleaned that up later :D)

Behind the wall you can see the 2x 1.5" drains and the 1" return centered between them.

Here you can see how the return plumbing comes through the wall and returns to the fuge at the top of the pic.

Closeup of the return Loc-Line that will feed the fuge.

My "creative" use of Uniseals to create a clean transition where the plumbing passes through the wall behind the fuge.

And finally, I did a water change tonight so I could flush a few gallons of water through the plumbing to clean out any debris. After a long project like this, seeing some running water was a welcomed relief. :)

man you always seem to do great work. I like that you took your time and made it a clean project. My wife only wishes I keep my tank area that clean. what's the plans for the fuge?

I know better :lol2: you did that to just to see if I would ask the question :lol2:

looks fantastic - great job as always Brett

Hahahaha. The Uniseals are just for looks I promise!! Thanks Pete.

Very nice, clean, and well deserved great finish!

Thanks Jared. :)

Looks great. Super clean as always....

Thanks 110! :)

Looks great! Nice job as usual. :)

Thank you Dennis. :)

Thanks reeftank. :) Well, next step is deciding on what rock to get. I'm leaning towards live ocean rock from TBS or Gulf-View etc... I know hitchhikers can be an issue with that rock but being in a separate fuge tank I'm wondering if it would be more manageable if the situation arises. I'm liking the idea of getting as much life as possible on the rock from the get-go since my tank was essentially sterile for a long time. Hoping it would be a major step forward in regards to bio diversity. Thoughts?

Hey drummer, your set up is just stunning!

A bit off topic, but any chance you could post your favorite FTS of your 40, and what were it's specs? :)

could you squeeze in a 25micron sock, where the fuge dumps into sump, that would take care of hitchhikers and microbubbles

Yes, that's always a possibility for sure. I was trying to avoid using socks to allow pods etc to make it to the main display but I'm wondering how necessary that will really be. But a couple socks might have to suffice if I can't get the flow dialed in like I want. ;)

Thanks Electrobes. Sure, I'll look through some old pics and see what I can come up with. :)

You are close to get to 14,000 posts :)

 Not sure what that means but it sounds exciting. Haha

Wow, stunning!
Inspirational!

Thanks cubical. :)

After putting that much work into it and making it look THAT good, it is a little sad that it will be "just" a refugium. How long do you think it will take before the chaeto is relegated to one side and a super fancy (and clean) egg crate rack is in place on the other side for a full fledged frag grow out section?
