This OCD is worth it. That stand is top notch. I notice there is some space left between the top of the tank and the wall. Was this on purpose?

Thanks blenny. :) I left about 2" between the top front rim and the header for some air space. There's also about a 1" gap on either side of the tank as well. I wanted as much air movement as I could get around the tank to minimize any wicking of water into the walls. Thus the reason I laminated everything around the tank with either formica or pvc board. The viewing side of the tank will be all trimmed out so there will be no leakage of light into the family room area. It will completely sealed once the trim work is done. I wanted to do a freshwater test to make sure the thing doesn't leak before I trim it out. :)

You should definately test it man. Those bulheads have always given me a headache, no matter how tight I put them they always leak. I end up sealing them with silicone.

Will do. If I have to spend a couple bucks on some new bulkheads it wouldn't be the end of the world. What's a couple more bucks in this hobby anyway right?

What is the flow rate on that pump? Are you going to run a manifold or anything else off of it? I'm trying to decide how much flow I want going through my sump and returning to my 120g.

Very nice, hope its quieter then the GenX I picked out.

I'm sure you'll get a better sense of how your GenX will be once it's behind some walls on your stand. Mine will be in the sump room so I hope it's fairly quiet from the family room side.

Here's the 2009 product sheet on the Dart guys. It's way too much flow just for a return pump on a 180. I'm planning on running everything off this pump, all reactors etc... so there will be a manifold. I think I'm back to the original plan of a remote refugium/DSB too. This will also be fed from the return pump. I feel pretty confident this pump will give me options for the future.

Ok guys, this is the final revision of the sump design. Let me know if you have any final comments/critiques before I move forward with this one. :)

UPDATE:

Well, the sump is on order. I made a couple modifications before submitting the order. We'll see how it turns out when it arrives. I thought about building it myself but with the cost of materials I felt it was best to leave it to the pros. Couldn't afford to make a mistake that big. ;) Should be here in a couple weeks.

I started building the bottom shelf where the sump will live. Made a basic frame, glued and screwed it together, then leveled and secured it to the front wall and legs. I will finish shimming underneath so the weight is distributed to the floor, not the screws. Going to pick up some 3/4" ply this weekend and will probably laminate it with the same material as the top.

One of these weekends I am going to move my 180 behind a wall just like you did. I currently have my sump under the tank. When mine goes behind the wall I am going to bring the sump out from under the tank and put perpendicular to the tank. My skimmer is under the stand and it is coming out as well.
